In today’s data and AI-driven world, businesses have recognized the untapped potential of their enterprise data but still struggle to take control of the data locked within their complex data environments. With many data silos, numerous applications, and constantly growing data volumes, organizations struggle to understand their data and provide users with reliable access to it, all while maintaining compliance and transparency.
This is why SAP has partnered with Collibra: SAP supplies valuable business data through SAP applications and the business data fabric, while Collibra is a recognized leader in enterprise data governance. SAP Datasphere and Collibra together support a data strategy that emphasizes governance for data and AI, unlocking an organization’s enterprise data potential.
SAP and Collibra for Trusted Data and AI
Collibra is essential to SAP’s strategy for an open data ecosystem and plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive data and AI governance for the business data fabric. A business data fabric is a data management architecture that is built over underlying data landscapes and works by connecting, managing, and governing data across different systems and applications to provide a centralized view and seamless access to data without duplication.
SAP’s partnership with Collibra began in early 2023 for end-to-end data governance, and was recently expanded to address the AI governance needs of our customers with Collibra AI Governance. SAP aims to seamlessly integrate AI into all business processes while also assisting customers in creating their own customized AI solutions using crucial business data from SAP applications. Collibra Data Intelligence Platform is an SAP Endorsed app available in the SAP Store and offers data cataloging, governance, data quality, privacy, and AI governance capabilities.
Together, SAP with Collibra enable organizations to deliver trusted data to every data consumer and drive trustworthy AI across the data landscape.
Unlocking the Potential of your Data
Businesses gather increasing amounts of data every day. The sheer volume and the number of applications involved make it challenging to track the types of data collected throughout the organization, let alone manage compliance and understand the value it may offer.
There are three ways for customers to start unlocking the potential of their data with SAP and Collibra.
1. Take control of your data landscape with end-to-end data governance
The potential of data is limitless, and advancements focused on data will only continue to speed up with the rise of AI. It’s crucial for organizations to take control of their data environments now, to pave the way for adopting new technologies in the future. These technologies have the potential to transform customer experiences, streamline business processes, and create new business opportunities.
The Collibra Data Intelligence Platform is a comprehensive governance solution with cataloging, governance, data quality, privacy, and AI governance capabilities. The tools provided for data discovery, cataloging, and metadata management allow organizations to effortlessly maintain a business-friendly, searchable catalog of data and analytics assets across the enterprise.
With automated data quality capabilities, data can be continuously assessed and monitored to identify and address issues like data inaccuracies and inconsistencies. This helps to ensure that data-driven business decisions are based on reliable and high-quality data.
Collibra promotes a data-driven mindset and enhances data literacy by providing a standardized business glossary and collaborative features that facilitate communication among various data stakeholders like data stewards, business users, and IT professionals.
Finally, the platform handles data risk and compliance, ensuring businesses follow data protection regulations like GDPR, CCPA, and HIPAA. Data privacy has become increasingly important as more information is shared and stored digitally and used for transformative initiatives like Generative AI.
With Collibra, businesses can be in control of their data landscape, which is essential for any data-driven organization to succeed and will also help pave the way for AI-driven innovations.
2. Make data easier to find, understand, and trust across the organization
Unlocking your data’s potential begins with understanding the data you already have and enabling your users to easily discover, understand, and trust the data to drive better business outcomes. For example, your users could combine customer data from marketing, sales, and support to create 360-degree customer views – but only if they can find and trust the data they need.
Collibra Data Catalog is part of the Collibra Data Intelligence Platform and enables organizations to manage, discover, and govern their data and analytics assets effectively. It can scan and profile data and analytics assets from 100+ sources (data warehouses, BI tools, applications, etc.) and create a centralized catalog that includes metadata with rich technical, business and operational context like descriptions, owner, source, business terms and more. It also offers capabilities such as data lineage, impact analysis, and a standardized business glossary that can increase data literacy within an organization. With Collibra Data Catalog, users can easily find and trust the data they need to make better data-driven decisions.
SAP Datasphere is the foundation for a business data fabric and provides a unified experience for data integration, data cataloging, semantic modeling, data warehousing, data federation, and data virtualization. SAP Datasphere catalog is the metadata management solution for SAP applications. It collects and organizes metadata and assets from SAP sources, and currently supports SAP Analytics Cloud, SAP Datasphere, and SAP Datasphere BW Bridge assets. In the roadmap, SAP Datasphere catalog will expand its support to include metadata from additional SAP sources including SAP BW/4HANA, SAP S/4HANA, and SAP HANA Cloud. The catalog helps you stay connected with all the SAP data and analytics assets throughout your business, providing a continuous flow of information to assist you in monitoring your business performance.

SAP and Collibra are working closely together to build deep integration that allows detailed metadata and lineage from SAP sources to be shared with Collibra via SAP Datasphere, enabling an end-to-end data catalog across SAP and non-SAP sources. The initial integration will be become available in the Q3 2024 release of Collibra Data Intelligence Platform with support for SAP Analytics Cloud and SAP Datasphere assets.
Going back to the earlier example, users can use Collibra to find sales, customer and product support data from SAP sources, consumer data from Google, and other useful third-party data. The same users can then use SAP Datasphere to gain access to these data products and harmonize the data in a semantically rich analytical model without duplication to form 360-degree views of their customers.
More opportunities within your data are waiting to be uncovered with the combination of SAP Datasphere and Collibra.
3. Build AI with governance best practices to maximize results and reduce risk
The rise of AI and its growing role in automating customer experiences, tasks, and decisions highlights the importance of trusted data and the need to extend governance to AI. AI can unleash the potential of your data, but it requires careful governance and monitoring. This includes supervising how the data is used in AI, ensuring ethical handling of the data, complying with privacy and regulatory rules, and addressing other relevant aspects. For instance, insufficient understanding and insight into the data powering AI can result in biased AI, resulting in costly consequences such as legal action and damage to a company’s reputation. An AI governance framework can be implemented with Collibra AI Governance to assist in maximizing results while steering clear of the risks and costs often linked with AI.
