Important updates to the SAP BusinessObjects BI support and maintenance strategy

In conjunction with the adjusted release date for BI 2025, SAP is introducing updates to the support and maintenance strategy . We believe these changes will provide clarity to our customers as we transition to BI 2025, helping them to make informed decisions about your deployment and upgrade strategies.

Here’s an overview of the upcoming changes:

1. End of support for SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.2

Please note that support for SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.2 will officially end on December, 31st 2024. For customers currently using BI 4.2, customers must upgrade to BI 4.3 or BI 2025 to ensure continued access to critical updates and .

2. Mainstream

To ensure a smooth transition to SAP BusinessObjects BI 2025, the mainstream maintenance for SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.3 is now extended by one additional year, until end of 2026.

3. New BI customer-specific maintenance

As part of our updated maintenance approach, we’re refining the types of support available during different phases of the product lifecycle:

– No more Priority 1 Support (P1) for BI 4.3 and BI 20xx releases: Moving forward, the P1 support classification will no longer be available.

– BI 4.3 and BI 20xx Mainstream Maintenance will be followed directly by Customer-Specific Maintenance (CSM). We will continue to deliver patches for the first year of Customer-Specific Maintenance (CSM) for vulnerabilities rated CVSS >= 7  impacting BI, as described in 3053725 – Security Corrections in Customer Specific Maintenance – SAP for Me.

This approach will help ensure your system’s resilience against potential security risks, while aligning with SAP’s maintenance standards.

These adjustments align with SAP’s focus on supporting the security and stability of the SAP BusinessObjects BI platform during its lifecycle, even as we phase out older versions.

For detailed information of these changes and what they mean for your organization, please refer to our updated SAP BusinessObjects Maintenance Strategy 2024 document.

4.  Platform Availability Matrix for SAP BusinessObjects BI 2025

In order to help you to plan you future upgrade on the new version of SAP BusinessObjects, we will publish very soon the first version of the Product Availability Matrix for BI 2025, where you will find details about SAP software product versions, including availability and end of maintenance dates, upgrade paths, and technical release information (database platforms, Java platforms, operating systems, and so on).
