What a year it has been. Wow! 2024 was packed with great events, lots of new features and enhancements to extend existing features. Explore the latest updates in our community news blogs and enjoy watching my top feature highlights for 2024 on YouTube below.

SAP Datasphere 2024 highlights in a nutshell

What a great ride it has been in 2024 with SAP Datasphere!
Let me share a few of my personal highlights.

184 innovations were delivered according to What’s New in SAP Datasphere on SAP Help. This is just the tip of the iceberg, and we know there is always a demand for more features and even quicker delivery. Thousands of code lines were written, tested, deployed and finally delivered as part of the solution. Kudos 👏 to all you developers, UX designers, fellow product managers to make this happen. You guys rock 💪

20k+ views of monthly top feature videos on YouTube about SAP Datasphere. I started this monthly series in January 2024 and did not expect this kind of success. Thanks for bearing with me and all the great feedback I got ❤️

11,967 attendees live at all SAP Datasphere sessions at SAP TechEd. This year we only had a virtual TechEd event. Personally, I love the onsite events and the interaction with customers, partners, consultants at our both and also during the lectures and hands-on sessions. Nevertheless, the studio interaction with my partners in crime Nikola Braukmüller and Dominik Kurz was lots of fun. Blessed to have such great teammates 🙏

My top features in 2024

Picking my top features for all of 2024 was not easy and here is my top feature list in no particular order.

Folder Support

In January we delivered the long-awaited support for folders inside the data builder and repository of SAP Datasphere. The feature allows to organize your content in folders within a space.

Nested & Shared Task Chains

February already covered my next favorite feature which are nested task chains, so the ability to use other task chains within a task chain. These meta chains help you coordinate many other task chains and since November you can share them across spaces to enable global task chains.

Confluent Kafka

Event streaming is a great way of data exchange between systems. Confluent is one of our open data ecosystem partners and this year we delivered Confluent Kafka as a target earlier in the year, and since November we also support Confluent Kafka as a source in replication flows to enable end-to-end scenarios.

Column Level Lineage

As a data modeler and data integrator it is always good to understand the flow of data on a field level. With the column level lineage, the impact and lineage analysis is now enabled to get one level deeper and allows you to select one or more columns in your analyzed object and show their sources and the columns that they impact.

Elastic Compute Nodes

The elastic compute nodes (ECN) enable you to get additional compute resources on-demand – while keeping your baseline compute resources untouched. You can spin up ECN’s according to your own schedule to help you expand elasticity during peak consumption scenarios and decommission them during regular operations.

Object store (Controlled availability)

With our final release of the year, we delivered the object store in a controlled availability. The object store provides an inbound layer to stage data in a cost-effective way. You can use replication flows to replicate data to local tables (file) and you can optionally further prepare the data with Apache Spark-based transformation flows. You can then share the tables to standard spaces, where they can be used as sources for flows, views, and analytic models (SAP Note 3525760, 3538038).

And more feature highlights of 2024

There are so many more great features which we delivered in 2024, so in addition to my 2024 top features, I pulled together the 2024 feature highlights in all different areas of SAP Datasphere for you. Enjoy the ride!

Data Modelling

Catalog & CLI

Data Integration

Spaces, Elasticity, Transport and more
