Deprecation of Java Tools in SAP Web IDE

SAP Web IDE sunset will take place as part of the SAP BTP, Neo environment sunset on December 31st, 2028. SAP Business Application Studio is the successor of SAP Web IDE. It was released 5 years ago.

Recently, the deprecation of SAP Java Buildpack 1 (a.k.a “sap_java_buildpack”) was announced. It will be removed from SAP BTP, Cloud Foundry environment on June 2025. As a result, Java tools in SAP Web IDE are now deprecated and will be removed from SAP Web IDE on June 2025.

Implications for Customers

Once SAP Java Buildpack 1 is removed from SAP BTP, Cloud Foundry environment, applications that were developed in SAP Web IDE using the Java templates and/or are based on the SAP BTP SDK for service development, will no longer run, since those applications are using legacy Java APIs which are not supported by SAP Java Buildpack 2 (Specifically, this Maven artifact is no longer supported)

Therefore, we will remove all Java tools in SAP Web IDE.

Next Steps

We encourage all users to move to SAP Business Application Studio and migrate their Java applications to use CAP Java, which is SAP’s best practice for developing Java-based services in SAP BTP.

In addition to CAP Java support, SAP Business Application Studio contains many innovative tools and offers much more capabilities than SAP Web IDE.

Test and Evaluation

SAP Business Application Studio is available for test and evaluation on the Free Tier or on the SAP BTP, Trial environment.

Please note that during the migration from SAP Web IDE to SAP Business Application Studio, customers will need to have licenses for both SAP Web IDE and SAP Business Application Studio.

Migrating to SAP Business Application

SAP provides support for customers migrating from the Neo environment to the multi-cloud environment. General information on migration can be found in Migrating from the Neo Environment to the Multi-Cloud Foundation
