Unified Connection Management (UCM) in SAP BusinessObjects BI 2025

SAP BusinessObjects BI 2025 brings a range of enhancements, including a redesigned approach to managing OLAP connections through Unified Connection Management (UCM). UCM was introduced following the removal of AOLAP, ensuring a seamless experience for users who need to create and manage OLAP connections within the BI platform.

What is Unified Connection Management (UCM)?

With the removal of AOLAP, due to certain dependencies tied to AOLAP functionality it was not possible to create OLAP connections in the Central Management Console (CMC). To address this, we have redesigned the OLAP Connection Page, integrating it into the Connections page in BI 2025. This update replaces the standalone OLAP Connection view, offering a streamlined and user-friendly interface for managing connections.

OLAP connections in BI 2025 are now based on the SAP BICS client.

Supported Data Sources in BI 2025

 BI 2025 supports the following OLAP data sources:

SAP Data Sources:

SAP BW (including BW/4HANA and S/4HANA)SAP HANA (On-Premise and Cloud)SAP Datasphere

Microsoft Data Sources:

Microsoft Analysis Services (2016, 2017, 2019)

Oracle Data Sources:

Hyperion Essbase 11.x

Key Features of UCM

Seamless Integration: The newly designed UCM interface allows users to create and manage OLAP connections directly within the Connections page.Cross-Application Compatibility: OLAP connections created using UCM can be accessed and used in various SAP BusinessObjects applications, including:SAP Crystal ReportsSAP BusinessObjects Web IntelligenceWeb Intelligence Rich ClientInformation Design Tool (IDT)Backward Compatibility: OLAP connections from earlier versions of BI remain editable in UCM.Bi-Directional Modification: OLAP connections created in IDT can be modified within UCM, and vice versa.

How to Create an OLAP Connection

Creating an OLAP connection in BI 2025 using UCM is simple:

Log in to the Central Management Console (CMC).Navigate to Connections under the Organize area.

3. Select OLAP Vendor and Provider from the list.

4. Provide the required details in the Connection Settings page

5. Browse available cubes, if applicable.

6. Save the connection for use in supported applications.
