How to Consume Region CN20 on BTP in China

You can deploy applications in different regions. Each region represents a geographical location (for example, Europe, US East) where applications, data, or services are hosted. Regions are provided either by SAP or by our Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) partners Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and Alibaba Cloud. The third-party region providers operate the infrastructure layer of the regions, whereas SAP operates the platform layer and Cloud Foundry.

A region is chosen at the subaccount level. For each subaccount, you select exactly one region. The selection of a region is dependent on many factors: For example, application performance (response time, latency) can be optimized by selecting a region close to the user.

Note that the BTP in China operates independently from other regions. This means you can only select and use regions within China (specifically cn20 or cn40) under a Global Account designated for China. In other words, you cannot use a Global Account created for other regions to consume cn20 or cn40 in China. You can identify the Global Account by the Cockpit link. For China, the link is https://cockpit.cn40.platform.sapcloud.cn/cockpit. Note that both cn20 and cn40 regions share the same Cockpit link with the subdomain “cn40,” as cn40 is considered the central region, while cn20 is the local region. These distinctions are mainly for internal account management purposes and do not require much attention from your side.

Step 1: Open the Global Account on the BTP in China

Open the Cockpit via the entry link: https://cockpit.cn40.platform.sapcloud.cn/cockpit.

For more information, see Managing Global Accounts and Subaccounts Using the Cockpit.

Step 2: Create a Subaccount and Select Region

On your Global Account page, click on the Create → Subaccount button.

Provide the required details for your new Subaccount, and choose the region that you need.

For example: cn20-live

For more information, see Managing Global Accounts and Subaccounts Using the Cockpit.

Step 3: Enable Cloud Foundry

Click on the tile of your subaccount, and then click on Enable Cloud Foundry.

Enter a name for the organization.

Click Create.

Then you will find that the API Endpoint is https://api.cf.cn20.platform.sapcloud.cn, which is hosted on Microsoft Azure.

Next, you can continue with your consumption of the BTP.

FAQ

Q: If I want to use cn20, can I reuse the Global Account outside of the BTP in China?

A: No. The BTP in China operates independently from other regions. This means you can only select and use regions within China (specifically cn20 or cn40) under a Global Account designated for China. In other words, you cannot use a Global Account created for other regions to consume cn20 or cn40 in China. You can identify the Global Account by the Cockpit link. These distinctions are mainly for internal account management purposes and do not require much attention from your side.

Q: Do I need a new Global Account to use cn20?

A: No. If you have already been using cn40, it means that you already have a Global Account on the BTP in China. You simply need to create a subaccount for cn20 under this Global Account.

Q: I have configured a custom domain using SAP Custom Domain Service on cn40 to deploy applications. Do I need to recreate the custom domain and complete the filing procedures on cn20?

A: Yes. You still need to follow the steps in this blog to configure and file the domain: SAP BTP上实现自定义域名配置. The difference is that you need to complete the filing procedures on Azure.

Q: Can the SKUs purchased for cn40 also be used on cn20?

A: The consumption remains the same, but the billing is done separately for each region. For example, if you want to use the Integration Suite in both cn40 and cn20, you need to purchase two quotas of the Integration Suite.

Q: Are CPEA or BTPEA available on cn20?

A: Similar to cn40, currently, only the subscription commercial model is supported in China.
