This baby just became the first person in the world to FIX THEIR DNA through personalized gene editing!

The tool is called CRISPR. To use it, scientists use a protein, directed by molecules that act like GPS coordinates, to search through a cell’s DNA until it finds a match… then makes a cut… so they can stick in new DNA. It’s basically a text editor for genes!

This baby had one tiny error in its DNA causing a life-threatening disorder. So they fixed that one error out of 3 billion DNA pairs. This is truly huge.

This same tech is saving other lives too – like giving more standardized edits to people with sickle cell disease.
