We are excited to announce the 2506 release of SAP Fiori tools, bringing enhancements that make full-stack development with SAP Fiori elements and RAP even more seamless—from initial app creation to UI adaptation and low-code configuration. Whether you’re just starting your project or looking to fine-tune a production app, this update continues our focus on productivity, extensibility, and user experience.
Let’s take a closer look at what’s new in this release.
SAP Fiori generator: Now fully open source
After a long journey of gradual transition, the SAP Fiori Application Generator is now fully open source. This means all the core logic that powers the generator has been moved to a public repository, giving you full transparency and the opportunity to contribute directly.
If you’re curious about how it works under the hood or want to propose improvements, now is the perfect time to get involved. Learn more in this dedicated blog post.
Tip: If you rely on custom generators or extensions, this is a great opportunity to align your tools more closely with the open-source foundation.
Accelerating RAP development with Quick Fiori App
Deploy a ready to use SAP Fiori elements app with ADT, and import it into your dev environment with SAP Fiori tools if tweaks are needed.
To simplify the initial stages of app development, you can now quickly generate a working SAP Fiori elements application based on a RAP business object—directly from ADT. With just a few clicks, a basic app is deployed using the service’s annotations, giving you a functional starting point in record time. And when you’re ready to go further, you can import the app into SAP Business Application Studio or Visual Studio Code using SAP Fiori tools, continue customizing, and redeploy as usual.
This feature is available starting with SAP BTP ABAP Environment 2505 and SAP Fiori tools version 1.17.6.
Enhancing adaptation projects with local annotations and more
Use quick actions to open the right adaptation dialog for your task.
UI adaptation projects continue to grow more powerful. This release introduces support for changes that typically involve modifications to the manifest.json—such as creating new pages—now available directly via quick actions in the adaptation editor.
We also added support for creating local annotation files within adaptation projects. Whether you’re defining new views or tweaking behavior, you now benefit from the same intelligent editing experience provided by the Language Server Protocol (LSP), including auto-completion, code snippets, and quick fixes—making it easier than ever to stay within the Fiori elements design guidelines.
The outline tree and property panel have also received a usability upgrade, with more quick actions and context menu options—particularly for working within tables.
Smarter tooling and continuous enhancements with AI
The SAP Fiori generator now defaults to using virtual endpoints in newly created projects, simplifying preview configuration and aligning better with modern dev environments.
The AI-powered Project Accelerator continues to evolve as well. It now supports Word documents containing both text and images, giving you even more flexibility when starting a project from design inputs. You can also decide exactly where the generated project should be placed in your workspace, putting you in full control of your file structure.
In the Application Modeler, our low-code editor for SAP Fiori elements, we’ve expanded the configuration options for micro charts. You can now define sort criteria for chart columns and use additional chart types, including “Column,” “Comparison,” and “Harvey.” These changes make it easier to present complex data visually with minimal effort.
Finally, when deploying to Cloud Foundry, you now have the option to select “Application Frontend” deployment within SAP Fiori tools, streamlining the deployment flow even further.
Looking ahead
The future of SAP Fiori tools continues to be shaped by your feedback and evolving development needs. We’re working on:
Bringing new capabilities to the Project Accelerator, including the ability to extract app information from PDFs, and enhanced Application Modeler’s editing capabilities.Deeper alignment between RAP and SAP Fiori development to further streamline the full-stack development workflow.Better in-tool troubleshooting during development, helping you catch issues earlier.Extended support for SAP Fiori elements features in the Application Modeler for a more complete low-code experience.
As always, we welcome your input and questions in the SAP Fiori elements and tools Community.
We hope these updates help you build great apps faster and more efficiently. Let us know what you think!
