We are pleased to announce that SAP HANA Cloud is now generally available in SAP Sovereign Cloud and SAP National Security Services (NS2).
These new deployments unlock the capabilities and benefits of SAP HANA Cloud for customers with heightened digital sovereignty requirements who cannot use the standard public cloud version due to compliance constraints.
Before diving into the details of the new offering, let’s briefly introduce SAP Sovereign Cloud and SAP NS2.
About SAP Sovereign Cloud and SAP NS2
SAP Sovereign Cloud extends the capabilities of SAP’s commercial cloud to meet country-specific requirements for digital sovereignty. Designed for public sector organizations and regulated industries, it enables the use of SAP cloud solutions while maintaining strict compliance with local laws and regulations. The offering supports key dimensions of sovereignty—data, operational, legal, and technical—helping organizations retain autonomy and control over their data, infrastructure, and operations. To learn more, explore SAP Sovereign Cloud.
SAP Sovereign Cloud is available in select countries and offers tailored solutions aligned with local regulatory standards. In the United States, it is delivered through SAP NS2, an independent, U.S.-based subsidiary of SAP. SAP NS2 provides SAP solutions to U.S. government entities, defense agencies, and highly regulated industries, ensuring that stringent U.S. security and compliance requirements are fully met.
We are continuously expanding the Sovereign Cloud solution portfolio, with SAP HANA Cloud being the latest addition.
The Sovereign Cloud release of SAP HANA Cloud
As shown in Figure 1, the Sovereign Cloud release is built upon the public cloud version of SAP HANA Cloud. It offers the same rich functionality and leverages SAP HANA Cloud’s strong data protection, privacy, security, and compliance foundation.

The Sovereign Cloud and NS2-based solution is further hardened, configured to meet local security standards, and undergoes rigorous security assessments.
Additionally, SAP HANA Cloud is deployed in dedicated Sovereign Cloud environments that are country-specific and provide advanced capabilities to address local regulatory requirements across the four dimensions of sovereignty. For example, we offer in-country residency for all data (including customer data and metadata), ensure that operations are performed locally by individuals with predefined attributes (e.g., nationality, security clearances), and maintain all required certifications.
Initial regions and scope
The Sovereign Cloud release of SAP HANA Cloud is currently available in four countries: Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. It is expected to be released in the United States by the end of Q2 2025. All regions are deployed on AWS (AWS GovCloud in the U.S.) and operated by SAP local delivery units, except in the United States, where SAP NS2 is responsible for cloud operations.
The scope includes both the SAP HANA Cloud, SAP HANA database, and the SAP HANA Cloud, data lake (relational engine and data lake files). Note that the AI-assisted database administration capabilities offered in the public cloud version are not yet available.
The initial release on SAP Sovereign Cloud and SAP NS2 targets regulated private-sector customers, such as aerospace and defense suppliers, or utility providers. Additional regions and customer segments are planned—stay tuned!
All SAP Sovereign Cloud and NS2-based solutions follow a dedicated release cycle that typically lags slightly behind the public cloud versions, to accommodate additional security requirements and validations. Currently, SAP Sovereign Cloud supports SAP HANA Cloud version QRC1 2025.
Summary
The new Sovereign Cloud offering for SAP HANA Cloud empowers organizations in highly regulated industries to confidently consume SAP’s flagship database service and build intelligent applications, all while ensuring full compliance with regulatory standards.
