The Next Phase in the Deprecation of the Classic Experience in SAP Analytics Cloud

Estimated read time 8 min read

As mentioned in the External Blog Post Important Notice: Changes in SAP Analytics Cloud Classic Stories & Analytic Applications, SAP Analytics Cloud has been in a phased approached to transition customers to the Optimized Experience.

With the 2025 Q3 QRC, SAP Analytics Cloud is entering its next phase. It reinforces our commitment to delivering a modern, high-performance, and consistent user experience within Business Data Cloud (BDC).

What’s Changing?

With this phase, customers will no longer be able to create new Classic Stories or Analytic Applications. For example, clicking on a new Canvas or Responsive Page in the Stories Module will now automatically launch the Optimized Story Experience instead of prompting the Designer in choosing between Optimized Story Experience and Classic Story Experience. It ensures that all new content benefits from the performance, usability, and functional improvements available.

🔒 Creation of New Classic Stories and Applications is now DISABLED Existing Classic Assets (Stories and Analytic Application) remain EDITABLE and FULLY MAINTAINABLE

Continued Access to Existing Classic Assets

Even though new content creation in classic is disabled, existing Classic Stories and Analytic Applications can still be maintained. Our definition of maintainable includes:

View, Edit, and Save ContentShare, Duplicate, and Delete

⚠️ Continued access to Classic Assets remains until the full deprecation in the 2026 Q2 QRC where these assets will no longer be accessible. It means that customers should begin the migration to the Optimized Experience prior to this date.

Enhancements to File Repository and Object Management

With this phase, we’ve made several usability improvements in how assets are presented and managed:

Visual Distinction: The File Repository now provides a clear visual distinction between Classic and Optimized Stories as well as Analytical Applications(Deprecated) Labeling: Deprecated object types now include a “(Deprecated)” suffix in their typeGranular Filtering: Object Type Filtering now has more granularity to filter between Classic Stories (Deprecated), Analytical Applications (Deprecated), and Stories

Streamlining the User Interface

We’ve taken additional steps to simplify the user experience by removing entry points that led to these deprecated assets. For example:

Analytic Applications module no longer has a create button. It still displays the most recent Analytic Applications.Stories module no longer has Smart Discovery or Grid Pages as selectable tilesClicking Canvas, Responsive, or Template now opens the Optimized Story instead of prompting the Designer in choosing between Optimized Story Experience and Classic Story ExperienceModeller module no longer has a Point of Interest Tab to create new Point of InterestsActions from a Model to Create a new Canvas or Responsive opens the Optimized Story

Increasing Awareness for the Designer

Within the Classic Experience (Stories and Analytic Applications), we’ve increased the severity of our Deprecation Warning to a Deprecation Notice. It appears in a more prominent indicator reminding the Designer that the Classic Asset will be disabled starting mid-2026. This warning is only shown to Story Designers, the users best positioned to initiate migration.

Preparing for Full Deprecation in 2026

This phase marks a significant milestone in our journey toward unifying and modernizing the SAP Analytics Cloud experience. We encourage all customers to begin or continue transitioning their Classic Stories and Analytic Applications to the Optimized Experience before the 2026 Q2 QRC to avoid any disruption. There are a few resources that we recommend.

Mass Migration Tool

With the 2024 Q4 QRC, we had released a Mass Migration Tool for Designers to migrate up to 50 assets to the Optimized Experience. There are a few steps that are involved which includes:

Selection of AssetsConversion Check & StatusConversion SettingsConversion Summary

Mass Deletion Tool for System Admins

With the 2025 Q2 QRC, within the System Overview – Housekeeping, we had introduced an option for System Administers to delete specific objects, without the need of manual deletion object by object. There is a Last Access Date which helps System Administrators understand which objects are not actively used.

But it doesn’t stop there. In addition to the primary object, all dependent objects are also automatically deleted. It means you no longer need to worry about unnecessary and unused objects adding up in your system and slowing down its performance.

⚠️ For Stories we do not support the distinction between Classic and Optimized Experience. It will be made available in a future release.
