Understanding Bundles and Scenarios in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Introduction

When starting an implementation in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, one of the first setup steps is defining the scope. Two important concepts in this process are bundles and scenarios. These determine which business processes are available in your system.

What is a Bundle?

A bundle is a predefined collection of business scenarios grouped by a specific business focus.

Bundles simplify the scoping process by offering ready-made sets of scenarios.

They are country/region-specific, meaning their content may differ depending on the selected country or region.

Available Bundles

Baseline Accelerator
▪ The essential bundle containing the minimum set of finance-related processes required for a functioning system.

Enterprise Management
▪ A comprehensive bundle for large enterprises.
▪ Includes all content of the Baseline Accelerator plus additional processes such as sales, procurement, and manufacturing.

Retail
▪ Industry-specific bundle for retail.
▪ License-dependent.

Public Sector Management
▪ Focused on managing budgets, revenue, and expenditure for public institutions.
▪ Relevant for government, nonprofit, and educational organizations.
▪ Cannot be selected together with other bundles.

Note: The Finance-Led and Professional Services bundles are deprecated and remain available only for customers who had selected them earlier.

Requirement: At least one bundle must be selected in the system scope.

What is a Scenario?

A scenario represents predefined content to support a specific business process.

Example: Time Recording (1Q4)

Each scenario is identified by a unique three-digit ID, making it easy to locate in the system.

Scenarios provide flexibility to tailor the system to the exact processes required by the business.

Group Ledger Scenarios

When defining scope for the first time, a group ledger scenario must be chosen. This choice determines how financial reporting and statements are handled.

Two options are available:

Accounting and Financial Close – Group Ledger US GAAP (2VA)

Accounting and Financial Close – Group Ledger IFRS (1GA)

Caution: This selection is irreversible. Once finalized, group ledger scenarios cannot be added, removed, or changed later.

License-Dependent and Non-Standard Scenarios

Not all scenarios are included by default:

License-dependent scenarios
▪ Marked with a lock icon.
▪ Require a support case to activate (component: XX-S4C-OPR-SRV).

Non-standard scenarios
▪ Marked with a warning icon.
▪ Trigger a warning message before being added.
▪ If confirmed, the change is logged.

Key Points to Remember

Bundles = predefined sets of scenarios (mandatory to select at least one).

Scenarios = individual business processes (flexible selection).

Group ledger scenario = critical one-time decision (US GAAP or IFRS).

Some scenarios require additional licenses or approvals.

By understanding bundles and scenarios, you can scope their SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition solution more efficiently and align the system with their business requirements from the start.
