We are pleased to share that SAP HANA Cloud is now generally available on SAP BTP powered by SAP Cloud Infrastructure. This new deployment option complements our existing offerings on hyperscaler platforms, addressing the growing demand for technological independence, local compliance, and data control.
About SAP Cloud Infrastructure
SAP Cloud Infrastructure (SCI) is SAP’s own Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) platform, operated from SAP data centers around the globe. Built on OpenStack APIs, it provides hyperscale-like capabilities including compute, storage, and networking. Originally designed to run SAP cloud applications with high scalability, resilience, compliance, and security, SCI now also supports selected customer and partner workloads. To explore the platform and its features, visit the SAP Cloud Infrastructure Documentation.
How the new deployment fits into SAP’s multi-cloud strategy
SAP gives customers the flexibility to run SAP HANA Cloud on the infrastructure that best meets their needs. Today, it’s available on the leading hyperscalers—Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, and Alibaba Cloud—leveraging our partners’ global reach and modern infrastructure. See SAP HANA Cloud data centers.
By adding SAP Cloud Infrastructure as a deployment option alongside the hyperscalers, we give customers even more choice and flexibility, while meeting requirements for technological autonomy, data residency, and access control in the public cloud.
First region and initial scope
SAP HANA Cloud is now live in the SAP BTP Europe (Frankfurt) region on SCI. This cloud-in-country deployment keeps customer and backup data local, ensuring data residency and compliance.
Operating in EU Access mode, the SCI-based deployment restricts the processing of personally identifiable customer data to SAP delivery units located within the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland, giving customers enhanced control and data protection.
On SCI, SAP HANA Cloud delivers the same capabilities and benefits as on hyperscalers*, along with the same SLAs and pricing models, ensuring a consistent experience regardless of deployment choice.
What’s next?
SAP HANA Cloud is expanding alongside SAP BTP into new SCI regions. Additional SCI regions are planned for upcoming releases—check the latest SAP HANA Cloud data center availability in SAP Roadmap Explorer.
Summary
With SAP HANA Cloud, customers can choose the infrastructure provider that best fits their business—either a partner hyperscaler or SAP itself. The first SAP BTP region on SAP Cloud Infrastructure is Europe (Frankfurt). With EU-Access, in-country hosting, and enterprise-grade SLAs, this region provides compliance, security, and reliability, serving the specific needs of German and European customers.
*Restrictions at GA: (1) SAP HANA Cloud, Data lake Relational Engine, (2) Joule in SAP HANA Cloud Central, (3) Customer-managed encryption keys (CMK), and (4) memory sizes larger than 7.5 TB.
