Introduction
In today’s rapidly evolving SAP landscape, customers are increasingly looking for seamless ways to upgrade and migrate their systems to leverage the full potential of SAP S/4HANA and the cloud. As part of the Early Adopter Program, I had the opportunity to work hands-on with the Transition Workbench tool to perform an upgrade from SAP S/4HANA 1909 to SAP S/4HANA 2023 FP03 and subsequently execute a migration to SAP S/4HANA Private Cloud Edition (RISE with SAP).
In this blog, I share my real-world experience from this project — detailing the Update and Tenant Copy methods in SAP BTP Cloud Cockpit, how the Transition Workbench helped streamline the process, and the step-by-step approach I followed to carry out the upgrade and migration successfully. This write-up is designed to help consultants and customers alike understand the practical aspects, challenges, and best practices of such transformations.
I would like to take a moment to recognize and sincerely appreciate the efforts and valuable technical advisory of Ravikiran Chikati, Bharathwaj, Arvind, Srivastava, Piyush and Klumpp, Fabian.
