​ What can a whale teach us about renewable energy? A lot. Scientists have found that tubercles—the bumps on a whale’s fin—help them swim more easily underwater and thus increase energy efficiency. Using biomimicry, humans applied the same principle to turbine blades and found that it also improved energy efficiency.
