This year, the vibrant city of Montevideo, Uruguay, welcomed around 230 researchers, vendors, and practitioners from across the globe for the seventh International Conference on Process Mining (ICPM). It was a truly special edition—the first-ever ICPM held in South America. From October 20 to 24, 2025, participants immersed themselves in five days packed with inspiring talks, hands-on sessions, and networking opportunities.
The program offered something for everyone: cutting-edge research presentations and tool demonstrations, an industry track featuring vendor-led tutorials, real-world use case discussions, and even a hackathon. This unique blend of academic rigor and practical innovation makes ICPM one of a kind—a meeting point where theory meets practice. Naturally, it’s also a flagship event for SAP Signavio, where we connect with the broader process mining community and showcase our thought leadership.
In this blog post, we’ll take you behind the scenes of SAP Signavio’s presence at ICPM 2025—highlighting the sessions our colleagues contributed to, the hot topics shaping the future of process mining, and the proud moments when our work took the spotlight with multiple awards.

Topics @ ICPM 2025
ICPM once again showcased the full breadth of process mining research—from foundational methods to emerging frontiers. As in previous years, many contributions focused on pushing the boundaries of predictive and prescriptive process monitoring, helping organizations move from understanding what happened to anticipating what will happen next—and even recommending what to do about it. Researchers also presented novel process discovery techniques, refining how we extract meaningful models from complex event data. A particularly vibrant stream of work explored visualization, explainability, and cross-organizational process mining, emphasizing how we can make process insights more transparent and actionable.
One standout contribution addressed a fundamental question: why do users often struggle to derive insights from process mining results? With its strong practical relevance, this research resonated deeply with practitioners in the field.
Finally, the conference spotlighted two rapidly growing areas—Generative AI and Object-Centric Process Mining—both of which are opening exciting new directions for the community and are sure to shape the next wave of innovation.
SAP Signavio @ ICPM 2025
What truly stood out about SAP Signavio’s presence at ICPM 2025 was the balance between industry leadership and academic excellence. As one of the main sponsors of this year’s conference, SAP Signavio welcomed visitors at our on-site booth (see photo above), fostering discussions with researchers, customers, and practitioners from around the world. At the same time, our team played an active role in the academic program, contributing several research papers that advanced the state of the art in process mining. The high quality of our work was recognized with two awards—a proud moment for our teams across Signavio.Next and Signavio Benchmarking.
Industry Track Contribution
Building on last year’s successful presentation by Gia-Thi Nguyen, our Signavio team once again took the stage in front of a large audience of practitioners and academics. We showcased how SAP Signavio, LeanIX, and WalkMe jointly empower organizations in their business transformation journeys, highlighting our expanding portfolio of AI-driven and agent-based solutions.
Main Track Contribution
Adrian Rebmann (Developer at Signavio.Next) co-authored a main track paper titled “LLMs that Understand Processes: Instruction-tuning for Semantics-Aware Process Mining”. The work demonstrates how Large Language Models (LLMs) can be effectively fine-tuned to perform diverse process mining tasks with a deep understanding of process semantics.
Workshop Contributions
Our researchers also made a strong impact across multiple workshops:
Majid Rafiei (Senior Data Scientist, Signavio Benchmarking) presented “Enriching Object-Centric Event Data with Process Scopes: A Framework for Aggregation and Analysis”—co-authored with Timotheus Kampik (Principal Scientist, SAP Signavio) and Gregor Berg (Co-Lead of Signavio.Next)—at the PQMI workshop, where it earned the Best Paper Award. At the same workshop, Adrian Rebmann and Timotheus Kampik co-authored another paper as part of an ongoing collaboration with researchers from Hasso-Plattner-Institut (HPI).In the Machine Learning for Process Mining workshop, Lukas Kirchdorfer (PhD Student, Signavio.Next) presented research on simplifying neural network architectures for predictive process monitoring, co-authored with Amaan Ansari (former working student) and Sherri Hadian (AI Scientist, Signavio.Next).Finally, Adrian Rebmann contributed to yet another paper on conformance checking, co-authored with two former visiting PhD researchers from the Blue Sky team.
Reviewer Service
Beyond paper contributions, our colleagues were also recognized for their exceptional service to the research community. Timotheus Kampik received an honorable mention for his reviewing efforts, and Majid Rafiei was selected as the Best Reviewer at ICPM 2025—a testament to our team’s deep engagement and expertise in advancing process mining research.

Conclusion
ICPM 2025 once again demonstrated that process mining is both a well-established discipline and a rapidly evolving field, expanding its horizons with every edition. The conference covered an impressive spectrum of research topics—from foundational methods to the latest trends shaping the future of digital process transformation.
For those eager to dive deeper into the technical details, the entire collection of conference papers is publicly available—a great opportunity to explore the newest insights and innovations. And if you’d like to discuss the latest developments firsthand, we invite you to connect with the Blue Sky Team at SAP Signavio and join our weekly research discussions on emerging topics in process mining.
Looking forward, the next ICPM will take place in February 2027, with a special industry-focused event in Germany already planned for summer 2026. Until then, stay tuned for more updates from SAP Signavio as we continue shaping the future of process mining—together with the global research community.
