SAP Integration Suite: Intelligent Integration with AI Adapter

Estimated read time 7 min read

Overview

Enterprise integration is changing. The new AI Adapter for SAP Integration Suite makes it easier to add generative AI to integrations, workflows, and automations. This is a shift from just moving data between systems to building integrations that understand context and act more intelligently.

AI Adapter in SAP Integration Suite(Cloud Integration), making it easier to use generative AI directly within integration flows on SAP BTP. It lets integration flow(iFlows) call AI or large language model services at runtime. It comes with two options:

AICore-GenAIHub: It connects to SAP AI Core through the GenAI Hub, giving access to multiple foundation models using a single, unified API.Custom-OpenAI-Rest: It connects to external AI providers such as OpenAI through a simple REST based interface.

Architecture Overview

The AI Adapter is used as a receiver in an integration flow. SAP Integration Suite starts the call and sends the request to either SAP AI Core through the GenAI Hub or to OpenAI.

The AI service processes the request and sends the response back to SAP Integration Suite, where it is used in the next steps of the flow.

What can we do with it

With this AI adapter, you can run tasks like sentiment analysis, text classification, translation, or text summarisation directly inside an iFlow. It also allows real time data enrichment, for example analysing customer feedback before sending it to downstream systems. More advanced scenarios are possible too, such as AI driven routing decisions or smarter, automated error handling. When using the GenAI Hub, you can even switch between models without changing the integration logic.

What makes this important is how naturally AI fits into existing integration scenarios. Instead of building and maintaining separate microservices, teams can embed AI capabilities straight into the integration layer they already use. This reduces development effort, speeds up delivery, and keeps the overall architecture simpler.

Key benefits

Faster AI adoptionIntelligent and dynamic iFlows can be buildFlexibility through AI CoreSimplifies architecture with no middleware

Why it makes a difference

This matters because the AI Adapter changes how integrations are built and used. Rather than creating separate services or complex workarounds, teams can add large language model capabilities directly into their existing integrations. This cuts down development effort, speeds things up, and opens the door to smarter and more flexible automation.

AI Adapter availability and Documentation

The AI Adapter is available through SAP Business Accelerator Hub and can be consumed like other standard integration adapters. Its availability depends on the SAP Integration Suite service plan you are using, as not all plans support the same feature set. SAP provides further details in below SAP Notes which outline the supported capabilities across different service plans:

2903776 – SAP Integration Suite – Service Plans and Upgrade Paths – SAP for Me

3188446 – SAP Integration Suite Adapters on the SAP Business Accelerator Hub – SAP for Me

For more details on the adapter architecture, installation steps, configuration options, and documentation, you can refer to the official SAP documentation and resources at the links below:

Conclusion

With the AI Adapter, SAP is clearly taking Integration Suite beyond traditional connectivity and orchestration. Integration is no longer just about moving data from point A to point B. It can now understand context, respond to changing situations, and deliver smarter, more meaningful outcomes.

For organisations looking to get more value from their data flows, whether that is customer engagement, document processing, real time insights, or flexible workflows, this opens up a whole new set of possibilities. If you are already using SAP BTP and Integration Suite, now is a great time to explore how AI powered integration can enhance your landscape in a very practical way.
