In this video, I show how to apply classic three-tier architecture to agent systems so you can separate concerns across a data source layer (APIs, MCP servers, RAG), a processing layer (reasoning, orchestration, tools, memory), and a presentation layer (Docs, Slack, email, dashboards). I cover what to consider in each layer—freshness, auth, schemas, reliability; model selection, orchestration patterns, context, memory/state, and cost; plus output format, audience, timeliness, multi-channel delivery, and human-in-the-loop. I then walk through my open-source clinical trial tracker: an MCP server wrapping the clinicaltrials.gov API, a Google Sheets watch list, an orchestrated monitoring pipeline that generates an HTML email digest, and optional Linear tickets and a local web dashboard. I also explain how Arcade simplifies OAuth and authenticated tool access, and how the same layering works in a multi-agent setup.
