Introduction
Integrating SAP Intelligent Clinical Supply Management (ICSM) with IRT/RTSM systems is essential for running efficient clinical trials but many teams still end up reinventing the same integration patterns.
To help the ecosystem move faster, sample integration content for ICSM is now available on the SAP Business Accelerator Hub, providing a practical starting point for building integrations between ICSM and IRT systems using SAP Integration Suite.
This post introduces the content, highlights the supported ICSM-IRT scenarios and explains how partners and customers can reuse and extend these building blocks to accelerate real‑world integrations.
Business value
Instead of starting from scratch, partners and customer can now:
Reuse proven integration patternsAccelerate ICSM-IRT implementationsFocus on value‑adding extensions rather than plumbingAlign with SAP‑recommended architecture and standards
The content is intentionally modular, making it easier to adapt to different IRT systems or extend with additional scenarios.
What’s Included
The published package SAP Intelligent Clinical Supply Management-Sample Integration with IRT demonstrates end-to-end integration scenarios across both planning and operations, based on GS1 Clinical Trials standards (3.6) and SAP-recommended integration patterns.
How to Consume the Accelerator Content
This can be consumed using SAP’s standard process for pre-packaged integration content: The pre-packaged integration content in SAP integration Suite is a set of Integration flows (iflows) leveraging the capabilities of SAP Integration Suite and SAP BTP to integrate IRT and SAP ICSM smoothly. This prepackage content takes care of many aspects of integration; some of these are as follows:
Connect the IRT system to SAP Integration Suite artifacts via API management.Transformation of message payload from GS1 to ICSM and vice versa.Seamless integration of SAP Event Mesh to take an action against the events raised from ICSM (e.g. sales order created; Inventory report executed etc.).
This pre-package integration content supports the following interfaces for planning and operation in ICSM:
Interfaces for ICSM Planning
Study InformationIRT actuals and Master
Interfaces for ICSM Operations
Inventory ReportShipment request and confirmationDispatch AdviceReceiving AdviceDispensation AdviceKit Status Change (Inbound/Outbound)
Below are the steps to consume the pre-packaged integration content:
Step 1 – Discover the package
Navigate to your SAP Integration Suite – Integration – Discover tab and search for the package “SAP Intelligent Clinical Supply Management Integration with IRT”
Below is the diagram shows the navigation steps.

Select the package and click copy to move it into your design workspace.
Note: As with all standard packages, once you copy it, modifications in your workplace do not auto-inherit future SAP updates- SAP recommends keeping custom changes separate.
Step 2 – Review the Artifacts
Review each artifact integration flows and configure the user credentials for ICSM APIs and OAuth2 Client Credentials for event mesh using its service key values.
Step 3 – Configure the defined externalized parameters in each artifact
Update the values in each of the defined externalized parameters in each of the artifact integration flows.
The integration flows combine API-based and Event-driven approaches using SAP Integration Suite, SAP API Management, SAP Event Mesh and Cloud Connector, reflecting a reference architecture suitable for real-world landscapes.
Reference, not a Black Box
This is sample/accelerator content. Its purpose is to illustrate integration approaches and provide reusable building blocks – not to replace product features.
As with other SAP community assets, it does not come with the same lifecycle guarantees or support rigor as standard SAP product functionality. Instead, it is meant to enable the ecosystem to innovate, customize, and deliver differentiated solutions on top of SAP ICSM.
Get Started
Explore the sample Integration Package on the SAP Business Accelerator Hub.Review the ICSM-IRT Integration architecture and patterns.Copy, adapt and extend the content for your own scenarios.
If you are an IRT vendor, Partner or Customer working with ICSM, then this is an opportunity to reduce the integration effort and contribute to a growing, interoperable ecosystem around clinical supply management.
This Accelerator Content lays out the groundwork for real-world ICSM-IRT integrations by providing pre-built, GS1 aligned, event driven flows that can be directly adopted for the proof-of-concept work.
In the upcoming blog of this series, this accelerator content forms the technical backbone for validating the end-to-end data exchange between ICSM and an IRT platform, which accelerates onboarding IRT partners and helps to reduce the custom development effort.
