By now, most of us have had the opportunity to explore the Configuration and Security Analysis (CSA) new Validation application. The new features are truly helpful, aren’t they?

CSA has now extended its capabilities with a powerful new “Events” functionality, which enablesĀ real-time monitoring, alerting, and automated responsesĀ to system changes and security events. This enhancement takes your IT infrastructure management to the next level.

What Are Events in SAP CALM?

Events in SAP CALM representĀ significant occurrences within your IT infrastructureĀ that warrant attention, action, or audit trails. These critical events can include:

Configuration changesĀ across systemsSecurity policy violationsĀ or compliance deviationsAuthentication and authorization modifications

Setting Up Events in CSA

Getting Started with Event Configuration

In the Configuration and Security Analysis Validation application, an administrator can navigate to Configuration and configure Events by navigating to individual checks of the chosen service type and editing the Events tab.

Defining Your Scope

In theĀ ScopeĀ section, users can add the systems/services for which they want to be notified.

Note:Ā Providing no scope means the entire scope of all services/systems corresponding to that service type is relevant for alerting.

Event Naming and Description

In theĀ Events section, users have the flexibility to either:

Provide a new event name and description, orReuse the check name and check description

Event Actions: Multiple Notification Options

TheĀ Event Actions sectionĀ offers various downstream actions, allowing you to customize how alerts are handled:

āœ“ Create Alertāœ“ Send Email toāœ“ Send Chat Notificationāœ“ Create Ticketāœ“ Start Operation Flow

Save as Variant

Users who want to preserve their configuration for future use canĀ save as a variant, which will later be available in the dropdown menu for easy reuse.

After maintaing all the necessary settings, user must save the checks.

Example 1: Alert Creation

Scenario:Ā User Adam chooses toĀ Create Alert

Adam will see the alerts in theĀ Alert InboxĀ of CSA Data Stores applicationAdam can also view open alerts in theĀ Data Stores Card viewClicking on “Alerting” Tab in Data Store Application or the “Open alerts” number in Data Stores Card navigates to theĀ Alert InboxĀ where all alerts relevant to the selected scope are visibleIn the Validation application, open alerts can be viewed asĀ Alerts CountĀ on the Validation overview page

Example 2: Email Notifications

Scenario:Ā User John prefers email-only notifications

John enables only theĀ Send Email toĀ optionHe provides one or more recipients who should receive emails

By enablingĀ Chat notification, users can receive alerts directly on their subscribed chat channel, ensuring instant awareness of critical events.

Important Note

For Administrators:Ā ACL (Access Control List) must not be applicable when setting up events in the CSA application.
