“AI” is making computer hardware unaffordable for us mere mortals. So AMD thinks the solution is…buying a second PC, just for AI. Gotta say, folks, it’s not the best pitch I’ve ever heard.
Here’s the idea: you need an “Agentic Computer,” that’s always on and ready to reply to your commands at home or in the office. Kind of like the idea of a smarthome, but dedicated exclusively to running agentic large language models like OpenClaw. And naturally, AMD thinks that the Ryzen AI Max platform is perfect for this…at several thousand dollars, loaded up with up to 128GB of RAM.
I’m with my coworker Mark Hachman here, this sounds a lot like a car salesman saying that what you really need is the ThunderCougarFalconBird. Even if you actually want to use AI, there’s not a lot of use for local stuff unless you’re a developer who’s constantly leaning on it. In the meantime, maybe AMD could focus on something a little more affordable, at least if they want to get the attention of consumers.
