Authentication and Identity Management in SAP Signavio: Where We Are and What’s Next

If you manage users across a growing software landscape, you know the feeling. Another spreadsheet upload. Another manual onboarding step. Another moment of uncertainty during an audit when someone asks, “Who had access to what, and when?” Identity management is one of those invisible foundations — it rarely makes the highlight reel, but when it works well, everything else gets easier.

We’ve been listening. And we’re doing something about it.

Last year, we announced our plans to harmonize authentication and identity management across the SAP Signavio Process Transformation Suite. Today, we want to share what’s happened since: where we are now, what we’re solving, and what’s coming next.

The Challenges That Got Us Here

As SAP Signavio expanded into a multi-application suite, identity management needed to keep pace. Administrators managing large user populations told us they wanted less manual work — fewer CSV uploads, more automation, and a single interface for onboarding and offboarding across applications.

Security expectations evolved too. Customers increasingly needed native Multi-Factor Authentication, richer audit trails, and easier ways to demonstrate compliance during reviews. These are table-stakes capabilities in today’s landscape, and we wanted to deliver them as part of the core platform.

On the experience side, authentication and user management had grown organically across SAP Signavio applications. Bringing consistency to that — one identity, one login, one source of truth — was a clear opportunity to reduce friction for both admins and end-users.

But the most compelling reason to invest here was what it enables. The cross-suite innovations our customers are asking for all depend on a unified identity foundation. Getting this right isn’t just operational hygiene; it’s what makes the next wave of capabilities possible.

This direction was shaped directly by feedback from customers, support teams, and internal stakeholders. It demanded a fundamentally different approach — and that’s exactly what we’ve built.

What We’re Delivering  and Why It Matters

The answer is SAP Cloud Identity Services (SCI) — SAP’s strategic platform for cloud-based identity management, built on open industry standards and already trusted across the broader SAP ecosystem. What does this mean to you? Enterprise-grade capabilities: Single Sign-On, Multi-Factor Authentication, directory integration via SCIM, and audit logging, all included.

Where Are We Now

We’ve moved well beyond plans and prototypes. Here’s what’s already live and working:

For new workspaces, SAP Cloud Identity Services integration is active and operational. That means out-of-the-box Single Sign-On (SSO), the ability to enforce Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), and automatic syncing of user attributes and group assignments at login. These capabilities are in production today.

But it’s not just the features — it’s the experience of shift they represent. Customers creating new workspaces are starting from a fundamentally stronger baseline: security by default, streamlined administration, and an identity layer designed to support everything that comes next. The groundwork is laid down. Now we’re building on it.

What’s Coming Next
The work isn’t done — and we’re transparent about that. Here’s what we’re focused on:

A smooth path for existing customers: Transitions require care. We’re building a guided migration path to bring existing workspaces onto SCI, with close collaboration from your Customer Success Partners throughout the process.Centralized user lifecycle management: One place to provision, manage, and deprovision users across all SAP Signavio applications — a single, streamlined interface for the full user lifecycle. Enterprise-scale directory integration:  Full SCIM v2 support for bulk user and group operations, enabling seamless synchronization with corporate directories like Microsoft Entra ID.Audit and compliance capabilities:Comprehensive logging for login events, access changes, and user lifecycle operations — giving your organization the transparency it needs during audits and beyond. And the bigger picture: This identity foundation is a steppingstone. It unlocks future initiatives like harmonized Role & Access Management, unified API authentication, and seamless cross-SAP experiences. The feature requests you’ve been sharing with us? This is what makes them possible.

What This Means for You

If you’re an IT administrator this means less manual work, a stronger security posture, and one interface instead of many. It means having the tools to prove compliance during audits without scrambling for data.If you’re an end user, this means one login and a consistent experience across every SAP Signavio application. No more juggling credentials or navigating different authentication flows. If you’re a decision-maker, this means enterprise-grade security and compliance built into your SAP Signavio investment — reduced operational overhead today, and a future-proof identity foundation that grows with your SAP landscape.

This Is a Journey — and Your Voice Shapes It

We’re rolling this out in phases because getting it right matters more than getting it fast. Every step has been informed by the feedback you’ve shared — through support conversations, customer advisory boards, and direct engagement with our teams. That feedback will continue to shape what comes next. As new capabilities go live, we’ll keep you informed. If you’re interested in understanding how and when your SAP Signavio workspace transitions, we recommend starting the conversation now with your Customer Success Partner. Early planning makes adoption smoother — and helps us prioritize your needs as we roll out the next phases.

We’re building this for you. And we’re just getting started.
