Here, we outline the key steps involved in integrating SAP Joule with SAP SuccessFactors to enable intelligent, AI-driven HR experiences across your organization.
Pre-requisites:
SAP BTP Subaccount with Joule(das-application) Check the entitlements in your SAP BTP Global Account.SAP Build Work Zone, standard edition / SAP Start.SAP Cloud Identity Services which usually will be delivered with SF tenant.
Roles required to configure:
SAP BTP Global Account Admin & BTP Subaccount Admin (in case they are different users)SAP SuccessFactors AdministratorSAP Cloud Identity Services Administrator
Procedure:
Activating Joule and Running the BoosterEstablish Trust with your Cloud Identity, BTP and Create Trusted Domains.Activating Joule in SF.Activate Cloud Foundry, Create Destinations and Work zone Content Provider.SAP Cloud Identity Services – Source & Target Configurations
License:
Joule is included as part of your SAP SuccessFactors license at no additional cost with a certain number of free messages for an annual period known as Base AI. Some of the AI Capabilities are part of the premium edition – Premium AI, where you may have to purchase AI Units to use the functionalities.
SuccessFactors customers will receive a Joule message allocation based on the number of licensed, active users; Users licensed for multiple products only count once.Messages will be metered on an annual basis; at the end of each term, the annual allocation of free messages will reset (i.e., no carryover)Customers must purchase additional SAP AI Units (Premium AI) if they exceed their free message allocation during the annual periodIn case the service is not visible in your BTP Cockpit; to gain access to Joule, all customers will need to license a no-cost SAP SKU. Doing so will trigger the provisioning of Joule and the creation of the terms and conditions that must be accepted by the customer to use Joule.

Configuration Steps:
In BTP cockpit check if the Sucessfactor System is connected to BTP System Landscape and registered. If the system is not connected, we need to manually add the system to the landscape by registering the token successfully with SF.Create a New subaccount in BTP cockpit for SF Joule.Establish trust between the IAS and the BTP cockpit in the subaccount trusted configuration by adding the IAS URL.Add the SF URL to the trusted domain in both BTP and IAS.Create SAP Build Work zone service in the SF subaccount.Run the Joule Booster.
Select the respective IAS, Build workzone and the SF tenant and finish the Booster run.
Login to SF with admin user and create a group, add the enable joule role to this group and assign to the users for enabling Joule icon. This group is required to be added to the users who are accessing the Joule to get the Joule Icon for them.
Enable cloud foundry and create a service keyA new role “Launchpad_Admin” will be created in BTP cockpit after creating the service key. Assign it to the configuration user before performing next steps. The next step is to create destinations. Destinations LPS_SFSF_rt and SFSF_SSO are already created when running the booster.Create a new destination named Navigation service. Open the service key and copy the portal service, client id, client secret and URL and paste in the destinations.Create second destination named LPS_SFSFS_dt. For URL please follow the note 2215682.In Build work zone URL and create a new content provider and give the design time and runtime destinations and check the report which will give the assigned roles imported to the content provider.
Login to IAS and check the sf.api.version for SF source system is 2. If it is 1 then we need to get the Json files from SAP portal for source and target systems and import it. For version 2 no action needed
Login to IAS and Import the downloaded Source and target file.
Then Download the certificate from IAS in source system and Import in SF.
Similarly Import the target file to IAS.Finally run the read job in IAS to sync the configuration. We can see the logs from provisioning logs once it is completed. After the job is completed, we can see the roles assigned to specific users in work zone
Conclusion:
This completes the configuration of Joule for SF. Users can ask for SF queries to Joule and Joule will respond back. Please go through the blog and provide your valuable feedback and feel free to reach out to me in comment section for any doubts.
