These are Meta’s brand new Orion prototype AR glasses. And I tested them with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
These are different from other glasses where the displays move with your head, or headsets that recreate your environment digitally. With these, you see through the lenses while they add holograms that look don’t move when you do.
There are 3 parts: The glasses. The wristband, which is detecting electrical signals in my wrist in order to understand my hand motions. And a puck, which is providing some compute to the glasses.
These are a prototype. I just got to try them out and see how they feel. I tested a bunch of screens, phone calls with a pretty real-looking avatar of someone else wearing the glasses, getting instructions to make a smoothie… and a version of basically 3D Asteroids. And then Mark Zuckerberg challenged me to a game of Pong… which I lost.
But what surprised me most was what he said about the future of these glasses in our full interview…
