Series on Workload Analysis for HANA Platform – 6. HANA Workload Management Methodology

In the previous five blogs, we explored how to analyze SAP HANA system workload issues from various angles, including CPU, memory, NUMA, network, I/O, and HANA internal functions. With these analyses, we should have a clear understanding of what factors contribute to increased system workload or reduced overall performance. In most cases, these issues can be resolved by adjusting parameters, modifying program logic and code, or adding HANA database hints. However, some statements are difficult to optimize, and certain workload contributors can be challenging to identify. To enable the HANA system to operate efficiently and maximize performance for essential business functions, SAP HANA provides a set of approaches to manage and control workloads, helping to prevent excessive workload from impacting system performance. In this blog, we will focus on the primary methods of controlling workload in HANA, commonly referred to as “workload management.”
