The Framework Laptop is designed for maximum flexibility, both from a hardware and a software perspective.

To demonstrate this, within the 5 minute format of the Lightning Talk, Nirav Patel, Founder and CEO of Framework, took the stage at Ubuntu Summit 2024 and demonstrated swapping the Mainboard on a Framework Laptop to convert it from an x86 processor to a RISC-V processor, both of which support Ubuntu.

While doing the swap, he talked through some of the business and hardware decisions they have made to enable this level of modularity.

Nirav Patel is the Founder and CEO of Framework, makers of the Framework Laptop. He has been using Ubuntu on and off since Warty Warthog in 2004.
