The media industry and open source have a deep relationship, but what does this look like? In 2018, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences partnered with the Linux Foundation to launch the Academy Software Foundation (ASWF). David Morin is the Executive Director of the ASWF, and in this talk he details how the organization provides a neutral forum for open source software developers in the motion picture and broader media industries to share resources and collaborate on technologies for image creation, visual effects, animation and sound. You’ll also hear about the tremendous growth the foundation is experiencing, including the impressive 14 open source projects that it now hosts.
