 POLYGON1993 x Sora Showcase

When imperfection acts as a driving force for art and analog technology stands alongside digital evolution, the past, present, and future are one!
Polygon1993 brings us into a glitch universe that represents his daily life : a distorted world where reality and imagination mingle.

POLYGON1993is a visual artist, film director and media scenographer who has made a name for himself in the world of Glitch Art. His distinct style involves using old circuit bent video gear from the 80s and 90s to create glitchy distorted lines that come together to form portraits. His art is both nostalgic and innovative, blending old technology with creative ideas to create something truly original. His clients include prestigious artists and brands such as A$AP Rocky, Grimes, Tame Impala, Charli XCX, Pantone, Sony Music, Warner Music and more.

1️⃣ Sora is most powerful when:
“It was so simple to change elements when they didn’t meet my criteria. Sora offers great flexibility thanks to the storyboard feature, which allows for adjusting specific parts without overwriting the rest. It was then quite easy to fully leverage Sora’s capabilities to create the animations.”

2️⃣ The most exciting thing about what I created is:
“What impressed me the most was the realism of the animations I used as sources. The simple fact that I could type my ideas and see them come to life in motion in the blink of an eye is astonishing. It offers tremendous freedom for experimentation and testing at zero cost, where such tests might otherwise have been impossible or expensive.”

3️⃣ Something I was able to create that I couldn’t create before:
“It’s not so much that it was impossible to do before, but the fact that creating perfect loops is incredibly easy—much more so than with traditional video. I primarily work with human models, and even with clever tricks, achieving a perfect loop is always a challenge. We often rely on strategies to piece together something acceptable, but with Sora, everything is perfect down to the millimeter.”

4️⃣ How long it took me to make this / what my process looked like:
“When I started creating these animations, I immediately wanted to see if it was possible to integrate my generative creations into my workflow. During my first use of Sora, I was blown away by how relevant the result was based on the story I had written. Everything was thoughtfully designed and arranged according to my words, from the way the subject expressed themselves to the camera angles. It was then quite easy for me to use it as a source for my edits with my glitch synthesizers. I was able to create my montage, which I then processed through my machines and my cathode-ray TV to achieve that VHS look. I wanted to add my own touch to make the final result as personal as possible.”

5️⃣ How Sora impacted my creative process:
“Sora allows me to test ideas within minutes and create animations based on my static image work. For example, it’s now easy for me to create an animation from one of my older works, something I wasn’t capable of doing at the time.”

6️⃣ What I want other artists to know about what it’s like to use Sora:
“I’d like them to discover just how simple and incredibly powerful this tool is. I’m certain it’s going to revolutionize the way we create video at every level, from content creators to seasoned filmmakers. It’s a truly game-changing asset.”   Read More OpenAI
