Over the past 50 years, we’ve witnessed a troubling erosion of our planet’s biodiversity, including a 70% decline in vertebrate species populations. But there’s hope. Microsoft’s AI for Good Lab has developed a new AI-powered platform that is designed to change how we monitor and protect our planet’s biodiversity.

Called SPARROW, this open-source device is powered solar energy and harnesses AI and satellites to transmit real-time data on the health of biodiversity in the most remote corners of world. SPARROW will help researchers measure the planet’s biodiversity, supporting global efforts to restore habitats and safeguard endangered species.
