With the 2025 Q3 QRC release of SAP Analytics Cloud, we’re excited to introduce the brand-new Table Builder Panel, aligning the table design process closer with that of Charts and Geo Visualizations to streamline story creation.
Within this Blog Post, we will highlight the key analytics enhancements. These are broken down as the following sections:
Ghost TableNew Builder PanelFunctional Enhancements
For planning-related updates with the new Table Builder Panel, see Improved Input Readiness and Unbooked Data Display in SAP Analytics Cloud.
Ghost Table
A Ghost Table now appears when a new table is added or enters an error state. For initial creation, it prevents an unnecessary query from being processed and lets designers select the desired object, ensuring a consistent and guided experience. We’ve also introduced better error handling in the case of cyclic dependencies, missing entities, and so on.
For SAP BW queries, the table automatically inherits the layout, filters, and settings from the underlying query.
New Builder Panel
We’ve introduced a new Builder Panel that aligns the table-building experience with that of Charts and Geo Visualizations. There are several enhancements which include:
Available Object PanelFlexible Totals and Parent Node PositioningImproved Drop-Down List for Object SelectionNew Member SelectorTable Add-OnsSingle Source for Table Styling
Available Objects Panel
The new Table Builder Panel introduces the option to open the Available Object List, giving visibility into the full structure and objects of the data model. There are a few benefits which include:
A smoother, uninterrupted design experience with access to the complete object listEasy addition of objects via drag-and-drop or the more actions icon (i.e. Add to Column or Add to Rows)Clear identification of dimension types through intuitive icons in the object list
Flexible Totals and Parent Nodes Positioning
We’ve transitioned from a centralized “Show Totals and Parent Position” setting to independent controls for the Rows and Columns axes giving Designers greater flexibility to tailor the table layout to their needs.
Improved Drop-Down Menu for Object Selection
We’ve enhanced the selection process for Primary and Secondary Structure Members. Instead of using the Member Selector, users can now select individual members directly from a drop-down menu. The menu has been expanded to span the full width of the Builder Panel, making it easier to locate and select the desired member.
ℹ️Designers can continue to use the Member Selector for more advanced selections for Primary and Secondary Structures.
Integration of the New Member Selector
Designers now benefit from the New Member Selector when creating local filters or selecting Primary and Secondary Structures. For Primary and Secondary Structures, a multi-tab layout appears when input controls are detected, simplifying element selection.
Furthermore, support for Primary Structure Filters (Accounts or Measures) has been extended to non-SAP BW models, broadening their applicability.
Table Add-Ons
We’ve improved the discoverability of table add-ons such as In-Cell Chart, Linked Analysis, Hyperlink, and Threshold by introducing a dedicated Add-On section, a consistent experience with Chart and Geographical Visualizations.
A dedicated In-Cell Chart Panel has been introduced, allowing users to configure all In-Cell Chart settings in one place. Options like Show Data Value and Axis Line Color have been moved from the Styling Panel to this new, centralized panel for easier access and a more streamlined design experience.
Single Source for Styling
Adaptive Column Width has moved from the Builder Panel, and the Display of Units/Currencies has moved from the Number Formatting to a central location in the Styling Panel under Table Properties.
Functional Enhancements
With the new Builder Panel, we’ve introduced several functional enhancements to improve the creation and customization of tabular visualizations. There are several enhancements which include:
Ranking & Sorting ImprovementsReport to Report Interface EnhancementsBlended Table ImprovementsFlexibility with the Version DimensionShow / Hide Threshold Tooltip DetailsHierarchal and Multi-Selection Primary Structure Input ControlNew Client Calculations Panel
Ranking and Sorting
We’ve introduced several enhancements to Sort and Rank in Tables, giving users greater flexibility and control.
Sorts in Table are no longer version dependent. When dimensions are placed on both axes, you can now choose to apply sorting to either rows or columns and specify the dimension members to sort. Additionally, Keep Left Columns Group has been renamed to Break Grouping for consistency with chart terminology.
For ranking, Create Top N is now simply Rank to align terminology with charts, with extended capabilities including support for:
Ranking across Multiple DimensionsRanking SAP BW characteristics with collapsed hierarchies
Report-Report Interface Enhancements
For SAP BW live connections, the ‘Jump To’ menu now supports additional targets like Web Dynpro, ABAP reports, and custom BAdIs.
You can also navigate from a wider range of cell types including headers and total cells.
Blended Tables
Blended Tables are now supported in the new Builder Panel, with several key improvements:
Sort and Rank functionality are now availableDescription Format (Short, Medium, and Long Text) is supported for SAP BW dataApply Conditions can be used with SAP BW models
⚠️Migration of Blended Tables from Classic Experience is not supported and we now require at least one linked dimension within the Table.
Flexibility with the Version Dimension
There is now an option to delete the default version filter that is applied to a Table without forcing a single value filter. It provides Planners the flexibility to have the visualization dynamically update to reflect a specific or multiple versions.
It is up to the Story Designer to ensure that the Tables meets at least one of these conditions to display data:
The version dimension is added to the Table (i.e. on Rows or Axis)Ensure there is a single value filter on version (via a Local Filter, Story Filter, Page, Filter, or Linked Analysis)Consume a restricted Primary Structure (Account or Measure) or Secondary Structure on version
Show / Hide Threshold Tooltip Details
For Thresholds that are shown within the Table, we now provide the flexibility to show the Threshold Tooltip Details. It hides information such as the Threshold, Threshold Name, the Range, and the Bullet Chart.
Hierarchal and Multi-Selection Primary Structure Input Control
We’ve expanded the Primary Structure Input Control to support additional selection types: Multiple Selection, Single Selection Hierarchy, and Multiple Selection Hierarchy. It uses the New Member Selector for a consistent experience.
Tables now support consumption of both Multiple Selection and Multiple Selection Hierarchy input controls, in addition to Single Selection and Single Selection Hierarchy, giving Designers greater flexibility to build dynamic, user-driven tables.
For existing input controls, the current configuration will remain unchanged. However, once edited and confirmed, they will automatically update to the new input control format.
⚠️ Charts and Geo visualizations do not support Multiple Selection or Multiple Selection Hierarchy and will return an error if used.
New Client Calculations Panel
We’ve introduced a client-side Calculation Panel to help Designers easily manage calculations used within the Table. Designers can quickly format, edit, or delete a calculation by selecting the corresponding action from the panel.
This release is only the beginning. You can expect ongoing improvements that will make tables more dynamic, interactive, and customizable, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible within SAP Analytics Cloud. As always, your feedback continues to shape our roadmap, and we’re excited to evolve together as we reimagine how tables can drive decisions and insights across the enterprise.
Stay tuned, there’s much more to come!
