► ABOUT THIS EXPEDITION
In March 2025, I joined an expedition led by Aconcagua Mountain Guides to Ojos del Salado – the world’s tallest active volcano and the second highest peak outside Asia at 6,893m / 22,615ft. On day 1, we drove a rugged route to Refugio Maricunga (3,780 m / 12,402 ft) where we climbed Siete Hermanas (4,900 m / 16,000 ft) on day 2. Next, we moved to Base Camp at Laguna Verde (5,458m / 17,897ft), a saline, heavy‑metal lake nestled at the volcano’s foot. On day 4 we climbed Nevado San Francisco as part of our altitude acclimatization (6,019m / 19,738 ft). On day 5 we progressed to the high camps: Refugio Atacama (5,250m / 17,224ft), and then Refugio Tejos (5,800 m / 19,029ft) on day 6. On day 7, we set out for the summit.
