This Wednesday was the day of a bi-weekly release of features in SAP Cloud ALM, and as I follow the news continuously, I checked the “What’s new” page to see what the news for this release would be. I was happy to find a new app for Risks, which is something that was long awaited. I immediately opened Cloud ALM to check this new app.
“What’s new” page:

“Risk management ensures SAP projects align with business goals by proactively identifying threats to scope, budget, and timeline. It transforms uncertainty into actionable insights, enabling better decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.”
First, I could not find Risks in the Implementation page. I noticed a new icon, a magnifier with an exclamation mark, in the menu bar on the left side of the screen, and it was exactly the one. Clicking on that icon I could see the Risks app and created a new one to test, using the button Create.
I noticed that a risk has most of the fields we already use in Additional Information for other objects such as tasks, but it also has some new important fields in the context of risk management, such as Category, Mitigation Strategy and Impact/Probability (which defines the value of field Risk Level). Category and Mitigation Strategy have a list box with pre-defined values. I wonder how flexible the Category field is, since it seems to me that it could be enhanced by each customer. A risk can be assigned to project and timebox, not workstream or team, for instance. But it makes sense as it´s a project risk. But I can assign a responsible and an owner, and tag it. You can set it as a template, and its source when you create it manually is automatically set as manually created. So, I suppose soon that will be risks created from other sources, such as a Quality Gate service. Does it make sense?
Category values:
Mitigation Strategy values:
From what I could see, the matrix for defining the Risk level based on impact and probability is like that:
The result of my first risk (just a test for this blog) is here:
After creating the risk and adding the relevant information, I could see it in the risks list. There are many filters to be used.
As this seems to be just the beginning of risk management in Cloud ALM, I didn’t find any analytics for that, nor the possibility of uploading in mass. I only found the download for analysis. Let’s follow the roadmap and wait for the next releases.
To add the Risk app in your Implementation page, go to App finder and look for it below Implementation. Flag it. In my example below I edited the Implementation page to add the app in the Design, Build, Test and Deploy section.
After that you will see the app.
Looking forward for the next steps retated to risk management, improvements to this app and analytics, and more information from the Cloud ALM team about it.
