Physicists have made a splash without the splatter—by bouncing a tiny oil droplet on a vibrating surface.
Reported in a paper in press at Physical Review Letters, the dramatic effect could be used to control minuscule amounts of liquid in chemical or pharmaceutical processing. A few physicists think it could even help decipher the mysteries of quantum mechanics.
