It is always recommended to check the SAP Official Help Page for Joule Integration with Signavio Solutions and check the Joule Capabilities (user interactions with Signavio).
To begin with, let us take a look at the prerequisites for Joule integration with SAP Signavio:
You have your SAP Signavio Process Transformation SuiteJoule Entitlements in your SAP Business Technology Platform – In case you do not have the Joule license you can opt for the 0$ order from SAP Store also be familiar with Joule Base and Premium capabilities SAP Cloud Identity ServicesSAP Build Work Zone (planned for next release, not required for now)
While we plan your Joule integration, it’s important to know your landscape and how you would like to activate Joule.
Image 1
We will explain both the processes, with Section 1 focusing on first-time setup and Section 2 focusing on Joule with an existing setup, to make it easy for our customers. For both these sections, SAP Cloud Identity Service setup is common with your SAP Signavio systems.
Pre-requisites for Joule activation with SAP Signavio:
SAP SignavioSAP Business Technology Platform with Joule EntitlementsSAP Cloud Identity Services is working with your SAP Signavio system
1. SAP Signavio with SAP Cloud Identity Services
To activate Joule in SAP Signavio, we first need to ensure we have the prerequisites. Let’s look at the details of configuring SAP Cloud Identity Services for your system.
Note: In case you already have SAP Cloud Identity configured with SAP Signavio, you may skip this section.
Image 2
To achieve the above setup, you will need access as an Administrator to your SAP Cloud Identity Services and your SAP Signavio system.
We highly recommend checking the Single Sign-on Using SAML help page and the following sections
– Enforce SSO to Disable Login with Credentials
The details below can guide one of the processes to Setup SSO with SAP Cloud Identity Services.
1.1 Download the Metadata file from SAP Cloud Identity Services
This file is required to exchange the SAML 2.0 files and establish trust between the systems. More information is available here.
⚠️Ensure you have selected the same SAP Cloud Identity used across the landscape for SSO. This is essential for the best user experience with Joule. For more details, please visit our previous blog (Joule—Unified Setup: Bridging Simplicity and Performance) and ensure you use the same Domain Name as in your SAP Cloud Identity Services. Note that the Cloud Identity Service tenant cannot vary in case you want to connect multiple solutions to Joule.
Log in to your SAP Cloud Identity Services tenant, click on Applications and Resources, select Tenant Settings -> select Single Sign-On -> click on SAML 2.0 Configurations, and click on Download Metadata File.
Image 3
We shall go ahead and import this metadata file into you SAP Signavio System.
1.2 Establish Trust and Download the Metadata file from SAP Signavio
Log in to your SAP Signavio system, click on the App Menu icon, and click on Process Manager.
Image 4
In the Process Manager page, click on Setup and click on Manage SAP Signavio Process Collaboration Hub authentication as shown below.
Image 5
In the new window, you will have a few options to activate Single Sign-on Using SAML. You may refer to the section Enable SSO Using SAML. You will need to select the following options:
Enable SAML 2.0 authenticationAllow service provider-initiated authenticationSign authentication requestCreate new user accounts automatically (this will be an optional parameter, please validate before you select it)Copy the code from your SAP Cloud Identity Services metadata file and paste it into the Metadata section, as shown below
Click on Download the SAML service provider metadata, now this Metadata will be added to the SAP Cloud Identity Services
Image 6
Once you have validated the details, Save it.
1.3 Create an Application for Signavio in SAP Cloud Identity Services
We will be creating a new Application in your SAP Cloud Identity Services to setup a SAML trust between the systems. You may also refer to the official SAP Note – 3461963 for more details.
In your SAP Cloud Identity Services, click on Application & Resources -> click on Applications -> then click on Create.
Image 7
In the Create Application, please enter the details to recognize your system. You may follow the details as shown below and Save the settings.
Display Name – Signavio SystemType: SAP Signavio SolutionProtocol Type: SAML 2.0
Image 8
A new application will be created. Please click on the new application you created for Signavio System, click on SAML 2.0 Configuration, click on Define from Metadata, click on Browse in the new window, and upload it.
Image 9
You should be able to see the Metadata file information once it’s uploaded as shown below.
Image 10
In the same section of your application Signavio System, click on Subject Name Identifier change the Identity Directory – Value to Global User ID, and Save the settings.
Image 11
Next, we will need to add a value in the Attributes section. Please click on Attributes and click on Add and ensure you add the attribute Name as “signavio_licenses_v1” and the Value in my case I have “Enterprise Plus Edition” (You can choose your license type – The name of the license that you want to assign to a user, for example “Enterprise Plus Edition“, “Enterprise Edition“, “Classic Edition“, “Collaboration Hub“, or “Workflow“. If required you can also refer to the note3461963 – Configuring SSO with SAP IAS for SAP Signavio).
Before you save the details, please validate the other details such as email, first_name, last_name, and user_uuid as per the screen, and Save it.
Image 12
In case you want to add more values please look at Configure your IdP section on the help page.
This completes the bidirectional trust between the SAP Signavio system and the SAP Cloud Identity Services.
1.4 Test your SAP Signavio SSO with SAP Cloud Identity Services
To access your SAP Signavio system with SSO you can use the following URL syntax:
https://<<ServerRegion>>.signavio.com/p/hub?t=<WORKSPACE_ID>
In case you do not know your WORKSPACE_ID, within your SAP Signavio system click on the question icon and you can find the Workspace ID as shown below.
Image 13
So, in my case, my SAP Signavio SSO URL is:
https://editor.signavio.com/p/hub?t=5xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxc
Once I launch this URL, SAP Signavio auto-redirects to the SAP Cloud Identity Services page for Authentication, and users should be able to log in successfully.
Further, you can check the roles and authorization management here – Manage Users and Access Rights.
1.5 SAP Cloud Identity Services Additional Configurations
This is an additional process that will allow you to differentiate the access for Base and Premium users. To achieve this setup, we will create 3 different groups.
grp_joule_skills_personal_data_restricted used for Personally Identifiable Information (PII)sap.sig.basesap.sig.premium
Note:
I recommend reading the help page “SAP Cloud Identity Services Additional Configurations” for more information on each role.A base role is required for all users. If users need Premium and/or PII skills, please create the groups and maintain the users, respectively.
I am showing Base user group creations; you can follow the same for the others. You can navigate to SAP Cloud Identity Services, click on Users and Authentication, click on Groups, click on Create, enter the following details, and click on Next Step.
Image 14
Once you enter the details, click on Next Step (Optional: Search for the Joule integration; you can skip this application selection as it’s not mandatory).
Image 15
Review the details, then click Finish.
Image 16
Once the group is created, you can add the users as required.
Image 17
Ensure to repeat these steps for the entire group and confirm the required authorization.
2. Preparing for Joule Integration
Once you have the SAP Signavio system ready, please ensure you align with the Unified Cross User Experience approach. Then, plan to either use an existing SAP BTP Subaccount or create a new one only if this is your organization’s first project. It should be one Joule for all your SAP applications.
Image 18
Case 1: If you are doing the Joule setup for the very first time in your organization, then please refer to this blog to create your SAP BTP Subaccount and run the Joule Booster – Joule Setup – End-to-End Setup Guide (for all Line of Business) Unified Approach.
In the current release of Joule with SAP Signavio, you may skip the steps related to SAP Build Work Zone, as they are not required.
Case 2: If your organization already has an active Joule setup and using the same SAP Cloud Identity Services, then you can add the SAP Signavio system to the existing formations as shown below.
3. Adding SAP Signavio to an existing Joule formation
Formation is a logical grouping of SAP systems together. In Joule case, if the booster has been executed previously, we can use the same formation to integrate the SAP Signavio system.
Note: Please check if the existing formation is connected to Test or Production systems and plan to use them or create a new SAP BTP Subaccount.
To use the existing SAP BTP formations, navigate to SAP BTP GA, click on System Landscape, click on Formations, and search for the existing formation to which you want to add the SAP Signavio system.
In the formation below, you can see that we have a formation in a Ready state, and SAP Signavio is not part of it. Click on Include System.
Image 19
If you have too many systems, filter it out by SAP Signavio or else select the SAP Signavio system and click on Next.
Image 20
Select both options, as we want Joule to support SAP Signavio scenarios and enable the Joule icon in the SAP Signavio system, click on Review.
Image 21
Once you verify the details, click on Include.
Image 22
Once you click on Include, the formation status changes to Synchronizing, and it might take 5-10 minutes at times to become Ready.
Image 23
3.1 Post checks in your SAP BTP Subaccount
Once your SAP Signavio is set with Joule either via Booster or the Include System in Formation, you should be able to see the settings in your Subaccount.
An instance is created, which can be found in Instances and Subscriptions
Image 24
A SIGNAVIO_SSO Destination is created as shown below
Image 25
If these things show up, we can continue to set up the additional destinations required.
4. Creating SAP Signavio Destination in the SAP BTP Subaccount
To complete the setup, we need to set up two more destinations – SIGNAVIO_WZ_CONFIG and SIGNAVIO_WZ_RUNTIME to use the navigation service.
Note: SAP Build Work Zone integration will be released soon and will be automated soon; however, it is a manual setup with this release and we use the destination names to sync with next releases.
4.1 Activate Destination Service and Create a Service Key
To create the destination service, we will need to activate services called Destination Service in your SAP BTP Subaccount. Navigate to our Joule subaccount, click on Services -> click on Service Marketplace – > look for a service called Destination Service -> and click dots and click Create.
Image 26
In the new pop-up screen, you will be able to see the default values that will be picked up based on your setup. In my case, it’s using Cloud Foundry and the Space from the previous setup and you have to give the Instance Name and click on Create.
Image 27
Once the instance is created you should be able to see the details in the Instance and Subscription section under Instances.
Image 28
Click on the three-dots icon for your cli-signavio instance, select Create Service Key, enter the details as shown below, and click on Create.
Image 29
Once the Service Key is created download this file. You can click either view or download the file as we need the values to create the destinations. We will need the ClientID, Client Secret, URL, and the URI from this file.
Image 30
4.2 Create Destinations
To create the SIGNAVIO_WZ_CONFIG and SIGNAVIO_WZ_RUNTIME, click on Connectivity -> click on Destinations ->, and click on Create Destination.

Troubleshooting IAS Issues:
– Joule Blank screen:
Reason: Due to IAS domain mismatch or the URL is not part of the trusted domain in BTP cockpit and SAP Cloud Identity Services.
Fix:
Check if the SAP Signavio URL is trusted in your BTP Subaccount Check if the SAP Signavio URL is trusted in your SAP Cloud Identity Services Check if you are using the same Metadata URL from your SAP Cloud Identity Services as per the subaccount trust setup – if you have used ondemand.com vs cloud.sap in your subaccount the metadata from SAP Cloud Identity should also match the same.
