We are excited to announce the general availability of the Events Project and the Events Editor as on 4th September 2024.
Motivation
Events Project is the core building block of the SAP’s Build portfolio for cross consumption of Events and it’s artefacts. In this blog post, I will cover the general information on features of Events Project, Events Editor and more.
The new Events Project requires you to understand a few important terms that are listed in the following table.
TermsDefinitionOpen API specificationIt is the standard specification for describing, producing, consuming and visualising RESTful APIs and services.Citizen DeveloperPersona that creates application capabilities for cross consumption of API’s and Events within SAP Build. Event DesignerIt is a persona that will use the Events Editor to define the Events Project and it’s artefacts for subsequent cross-consumption.EventA single Event that is defined by its path, payload & header parameters for cross consumption.Event ProjectIs a collection of Event(s) that is created using an OpenAPI specification within the Events Editor by the Event Designer.Events EditorAn intuitive Editor/tooling experience to aid the creation of Events Project. Actions ProjectCore Building Block of SAP Build that aids in the simplification of API consumption.
What is the Events Project ?
It represents a collection of Event(s) or notification(s) with a defined signature (Path, Output, Headers) that works like a thin layer of abstraction over an Event or a Notification to simplify its consumption. The new Events Project helps to achieve the following objectives.
Is built on the Events Metadata and closely in line with the Actions Metadata. Is the core of the framework and aids the design and run time consumption of an “Event”.Provides functional operability and consumption experience of Events from systems to manage your business processes.View Events and its artefact within the Event Project making it reusable across consumers.Provides publishing and discovery of an “Event” across SAP Build and more (in future).
What is Events Editor ?
It is developed to create Events Project while bundling its corresponding Event(s) in a simplified way. It provides the following capabilities –
Discover the list of Events Package and Events Object using either SAP Business Accelerator Hub or by Uploading a custom Event Specification.View the details of Events Project and its core metadata.Select an Event to view its details such as Path, Output (Payload) and Headers.Release and Publish the Event for cross consumption within SAP Build.
Note: During creation of Events Project, the first version is always Auto Released and Published to facilitate quick consumption.
Discovery of Events from the Business Accelerator Hub
View Details of Events during Discovery
Event Editor
Usability within SBPA:
After an Events Project has been published, it could be consumed within the SBPA bound to a trigger.
Thanks for reading, and I would really appreciate your feedback. Please feel free to leave a comment in this blog post. Please watch this space for more updates and release information on Events Project and its future upcoming scope.
