​ Microsoft launched a groundbreaking AI project to digitally preserve St. Peter’s Basilica, in a collaboration with the Vatican and Iconem. Juan M. Lavista Ferres, Director of Microsoft’s AI for Good Lab, shares how we’ve created an ultra-precise digital twin, using AI-enhanced 3D replicas to enable virtual exploration of the Basilica’s architecture and cultural significance. These AI-powered preservation tool will help restoration effort so that the Basilica’s beauty and history remain accessible to people around the globe.
