Prerequisites:  Check that you have met all the necessary prerequisites, which includes activating the feature, which is detailed here.

Basics of AI-Assisted Commenting

To use AI-Assisted Commenting functionalities, users need to have the necessary prerequisites to view or update data point comment and the ‘Execute’ permission for the Generative AI object type.

This powerful capability offers several key functionalities:

Shortening and Simplifying Long Form Commentary: Lengthy comments can be overwhelming and time-consuming to read. This feature shortens and simplifies these comments into the language set in your user profile, making them more digestible and easier to understand. This feature can be triggered when a comment exceeds 500 characters.

Aggregating Comments from Descendant Cells: Data often comes with comments scattered across various descendant cells. This feature aggregates these comments in the language configured in your user profile, providing a consolidated view that saves time and reduces the risk of missing important information.

Summarizing discussions from the whole thread:  Comment threads often consist of comments from multiple users and evolve into discussions. This feature generates a summary of the entire thread, highlighting the key points.

Supporting User Authoring of Comments: When users are authoring their comments, AI can assist in refining the comment into a more professional and polished version.

Consistent experience across different commenting interfaces: The experience in the table widget and comment widget are consistent.

Note: aggregating comment from descendent cells is only available in table widget as the table widgets show the hierarchical view.

Reusing Comment Summaries within a session: Comment summaries are shared within the same session, eliminating the need for repeated regeneration.

Explore With Examples

Assuming you are an English speaker, and your user profile language is set to English.

Aggregating Comments from Descendant Cells

When comment columns are enabled in the table, you can aggregate comment from descendent cells – even if they were authored in various local languages by their respective owners. With just one click, AI-Assisted Commenting generates a summary of descendent cells’ comments into your language.

Shortening and Simplifying Long Form Commentary

Now, let’s take a closer look at Low Calorie Beer. The comment here is quite detailed and lengthy – and written in Chinese, a language you may not understand.

With the help of the system, a summary is automatically generated and translates into your preferred language. This allows you to quickly grasp the key points and understand the content effortlessly

Aggregating comments from the whole thread

Now we move on to Amber. The comment thread here contains inputs added at different points in time, reflecting an on-going discussion. With a single click, you can summarize the entire thread to get a comprehensive overview of all the key points.

Supporting User Authoring of Comments

You enter your comment, and the system helps rephrase your text into a more professional and polished version, helping you communicate more clearly and effectively. You can then further edit the rephrased comment text or save it directly to the comment thread.

Consistency between table widget and commenting widget

The same functionalities are also available in comment widget, ensuring a consistent experience across different commenting interfaces.

Reusing Comment Summaries within a session

Comment summaries are shared within the same session, eliminating the need for repeated regeneration.

For example, if a summary or aggregation has already been generated for the comments on Low Calories Beer and Red Wine, subsequent summary requests within the current session can directly show the summary without triggering additional AI service calls.

Note: once the user logs out or if other users initiate the requests, the summary or aggregation need to be regenerated again.

Conclusion

Overall, the AI-Assisted Commenting feature is a powerful addition to SAP Analytics Cloud, enhancing the way users interact with and understand their data. By simplifying comments, aggregating information, breaking down language barriers, and supporting user input, this tool significantly improves data comprehension and decision-making.
