Our team’s contribution to the ALMathon 2025: Business Configuration Management

We’re excited to share insights into a solution prototype we developed during the SAP ALMathon 2025Business Configuration Management (BCM), an extension to SAP Cloud ALM that addresses a white spot in Cloud ALM in the management of business configuration, i.e. customising, across hybrid enterprise landscapes.

Developed during the SAP ALMathon

As part of the ALMathon initiative, our participating team from PwC Deutschland contributed a fully working prototype of BCM. The solution was ideated, designed, and implemented during the hackathon, showcasing how SAP Cloud ALM can be extended to meet real-world customer needs. We’re proud to have been part of this collaborative innovation effort and are happy to share our learnings and technical insights with the SAP Community.

Managed with SAP Cloud ALM

Throughout the development process, we used SAP Cloud ALM itself to manage the project. From tracking tasks and milestones to coordinating team activities, Cloud ALM provided the transparency and structure needed to deliver BCM efficiently and collaboratively.

Why business configuration management?

SAP Cloud ALM offers robust cloud-native application lifecycle management, but many customers have asked for a centralised customising distribution service. BCM fills this gap by introducing the Business Configuration Hub (BCH) – a cloud-native service on SAP BTP that ensures consistent and reliable synchronisation of business configurations across hybrid landscapes.

Challenges addressed

BCM tackles several common pain points:

Inconsistent customising across systemsManual synchronisation efforts of customising changesHybrid landscape complexity that requires structural mappings of key mappingsLack of monitoring and analysis tools to ensure systems stay in synchMissing governance and approval workflows

Key features

Centralised UI: Familiar SAP-style interface for synchronizing customising in a golden clientReplication: Harmonises data across systems with structural and key mappingIntegration: Connects to SAP’s transport layer for seamless movement of customising settingsWorkflows & Governance: Role-based approvals and audit trailsHarmonization: Monitors distribution consistency and recommends standardisationCloud-Native Deployment: Hosted on SAP BTP for scalability and reduced infrastructure dependency

Architecture highlights

The architecture of BCM is built on SAP BTP and leverages several key components:

SAP Cloud Application Programming Model (CAP): Powers the backend services for customising data validation, approval, and distribution.SAP Fiori (UI5): Provides the user interface for customising maintenance and governance workflows.SAP Cloud Connector: Enables secure connectivity between on-premise systems and the cloud-based BCH.SAP HANA Cloud: Stores internal customising data and supports analytics and harmonisation insights.SAP Cloud ALM: Acts as both the project management tool and integration point for transport orchestration.

We look forward to engaging with the SAP Community and welcome feedback, questions, and collaboration opportunities. If you’re interested in learning more or exploring how BCM could support your organisation, feel free to reach out!
