Keeping your BW system up to date ensures that you get the most out of your SAC stories designed with BW Live connections. To make full use of the latest SAC innovations, enhancements, and fixes, it is recommended to update your BW support package at least once a year as outlined in SAP Note 2541557. Applying the relevant note collections through the SAP BW Note Analyzer also helps maintain smooth compatibility and performance.
For those wondering whether their BW system is aligned with SAC, there is now an easy way to check. SAC displays a clear status message in the story edit mode and within the support agent. This helps to quickly see if your connected BW system is in sync with the current SAC recommendations or if it needs attention.
What is BW Note Validation
BW Note Validation checks the BW system information returned by your live connection and compares it with SAP’s guidance to determine if the BW system needs to be upgraded. It summarizes the result in two ratings:
QRC version rating: how your BW backend aligns with the current SAC quarterly release cycle guidance.Support Package (SP) rating: whether your BW system’s support package level meets minimum recommended levels.
The ratings are shown as status icon and text details so you can immediately see if everything is fine, if an update is recommended, or if the system is out of date.
Where you can see it
Support Agent:After recording: When you complete a Support Agent recording, the result view includes BW Note Validation with QRC and SP ratings for the BW systems involved in the session.
BW Note Validation in Support Tool (recording)When loading an SST file: If you load an SST file into the Support Agent, the validation runs on the captured environment and displays the ratings.
BW Note Validation in Support Tool (playback)Story Info panel (edit mode): In a story that uses live BW connections, open the Info panel while in edit mode to see the BW Note Validation ratings. This helps story designers quickly confirm their bw backend is up to date or needs attention.
