Estimated read time 6 min read

Introduction

This document highlights an important evolution for the SAP Analytics Cloud Story creation experience and the Table widget.

It aims to guide story designers and stakeholders through the transition to the new Table Build Experience and to provide clear visibility into its planned evolution and roadmap.

With this update, we continue to simplify and harmonize the content creation workflow in Stories, ensuring consistency, usability, and long-term innovation readiness.

The New Table Build Experience Is The Default For New Stories

Last year, with the 2025 Q3 QRC release, SAP Analytics Cloud introduced the new Table Build Experience for the Optimized Design Mode.

This redesign marked a major step forward in how tables are created, configured, and consumed in SAC.

The new experience offers:

A more intuitive and guided workflow for story designersA builder panel aligned with the Chart Builder paradigmA scalable technical foundation enabling innovationImproved usability and consistency across widgets

All new capabilities and innovations introduced with this experience are detailed in the SAP Community article:

The New Table Building Experience in SAP Analytics Cloud

So, what’s new in the 2026 Q1 QRC release?

With the 2026 Q1 QRC release, the New Table Build Experience becomes the default table experience for any new Story created in this release.

This means:

Any newly created optimized Story will automatically use the new Table Build ExperienceNo additional activation or opt-in is required

This milestone reflects the maturity and stability of the new framework.

The New Table Build Experience Feature Parity

Between the 2025 Q3 QRC and the 2026 Q1 QRC releases, all previously identified gaps and functional restrictions have been addressed.

Our objective was clear: harmonize and extend table capabilities while ensuring full feature parity with the legacy table experience.

With the 2026 Q1 QRC release, we have achieved full functional parity for optimized stories.

This ensures that:

Existing analytical scenarios are fully supportedPlanning-enabled tables maintain their capabilitiesAdvanced formatting and structural options are availableNo regression is introduced for enterprise use cases

This milestone confirms the readiness of the new Table Build Experience as the standard going forward.

What Happens To Your Existing Optimized Stories

2026 Q1 QRC

If you have existing optimized Stories containing tables, there is no automatic change in this release.

Moving to the New Table Build Experience remains an “opt-in” manual action at Design Time.

You still have time to:

Evaluate the new experienceTest it in your development or test tenantsValidate your specific business scenariosPrepare your organization for the transition

2026 Q2 QRC : be prepared !

Starting with the planned 2026 Q2 QRC release:

The New Table Build Experience will be enforced by default for all Stories. The switch will occur automatically when you edit a Story. At view time, the new Table is already enforced for almost all tables in optimised Stories (with a few remaining exceptions).

Further communication and detailed information will be shared ahead of this important change.

We strongly recommend that customers proactively validate their critical Stories ahead of this release to ensure a smooth transition.
