Introduction
As part of our continuous innovation for Live BW connectivity, we are introducing Compact Display for Tables with the 2026 Q1 QRC release.
Compact Display is designed to simplify complex table structures by consolidating multiple dimensions into a single, structured hierarchy within a row or column.
The goal is to enhance readability, optimize space usage, and improve analytical clarity, especially in enterprise scenarios with deep dimensional breakdowns.
For customers familiar with the “Universal Display Hierarchy” in SAP BEx Query Designer, Compact Display delivers a similar conceptual benefit in SAC’s Optimized Experience, while being purpose-built for SAC architecture and modern UX standards.
What is the Feature “Compact Display”?
Compact Display allows you to group multiple dimensions on a row or column axis into a single structured display, enabling expandable nodes instead of separate stacked dimensions.
What it does
When activated on an axis:
All dimensions bound to that axis are grouped into one single row or column structureThe structure follows the top-to-bottom order of entities bound to the axisUsers can expand or collapse nodes interactivelyThe header displays the names of the compacted Dimensions/MeasuresDisplay Attributes are not compacted and remain as separate rows/columns
What it does not do
If the axis contains only measures, Compact Display:Is uncheckedIs disabledDisplays the tooltip:
“You can’t apply compact display because this axis lacks dimensions or contains only measures.”If no dimensions or measures are bound to the axis, the option is disabled.Compact Display does nothing when only measures exist on the axis.
Why it matters
In real-life enterprise reporting scenarios, tables can quickly become:
Wide and hard to readVertically heavyDifficult to navigate
Compact Display helps you to:
Improve density without losing structureEnhance hierarchical readabilityProvide a cleaner user experience
How to Use It
Compact Display is available in the Optimized Experience. If not yet enabled, you must opt-in to the “New Table Builder Experience”.
Step-by-Step Activation
Open your storySelect your TableIn the Builder Panel, locate the Row or Column axisClick the “…” menuSelect Compact Display
