Apple’s new iPhone 17e is the company’s entry level iPhone for 2026, but this year it actually gets some meaningful upgrades that make it a much better value than previous models. In this video I spend some time with the iPhone 17e and talk about what’s new, what Apple improved, and where the compromises still exist.
The iPhone 17e features Apple’s new A19 chip, bringing flagship level performance to Apple’s most affordable iPhone. MagSafe also makes a return this year after being absent from the previous generation, which means you can once again use all of your magnetic accessories like chargers, wallets, and battery packs. Apple also doubled the base storage to 256GB which makes this a much better long term buy.
At the same time, there are still a few limitations that keep the 17e positioned below the standard iPhone 17. The biggest one is the single camera system. While the 48MP fusion camera takes great photos, you do miss out on the ultrawide and telephoto lenses that you get on other iPhone models. The display is also still limited to 60Hz instead of the 120Hz ProMotion display found on the regular iPhone 17 and Pro models.
Overall though, the iPhone 17e might be one of the best value iPhones Apple has released in years. Between the A19 chip, the return of MagSafe, doubled storage, and the new frosted glass design with the pink color option, there is actually a lot to like here.
