First-of-its-kind footage from the devastating magnitude 7.7 earthquake in Myanmar in March 2025 shows a hillside cracking in two, its pieces sliding past one another like a conveyor belt.
The rupture was captured coincidentally on a driveway CCTV camera. Geologists at Kyoto University quickly realized the footage was actually the world’s first direct visual evidence of plate tectonics splitting land apart.
