Bioacoustics is helping protect their habitat in Washington’s Salish Sea by helping to reduce underwater noise. Microsoft recently partnered with Sea Mammal Research Unit Consulting and Washington Maritime Blue to search for the acoustic signatures of marine life beneath the waves—sending AI-powered, real-time alerts to mariners to slow down their ships to reduce underwater noise pollution.
What once took weeks or days to analyze, AI can now process in minutes. For critically endangered species, those minutes can make all the difference.
