When what would become the new Pheonix was initially spotted as a prototype downhill bike on the World Cup circuit, the act of it breaking cover should arguably have been the biggest news story to ever exist around the process. However, after months of testing at races and in public, another story grabbed the headlines. In March, the high-profile failure of the frame while being raced by Bernard Kerr threatened to overshadow the project and potentially even the bike’s legacy.
