In enterprise applications, even small usability improvements can lead to significant efficiency gains. When users spend less time navigating through multiple systems to get simple answers, they can focus more on decision-making and less on operations.
That’s exactly what our two latest enhancements in SAP Job and Automation Monitoring aim to achieve. With these updates, users now get richer job execution data and direct navigation to remote systems all from within the alert notification email.
Background: What Triggers an Alert Notification?
SAP Job and Automation Monitoring allow users to configure alerts based on specific job execution events, such as:
Critical Application StatusCritical Execution StatusCritical RuntimeCritical Delay
When one of these conditions defined for above event is met, the system sends an email alert (if configured), containing a summary of the issue.
Until recently, this alert included basic job run data but required users to open the monitoring app or navigate to the remote system to get more detailed information.
Feature 1: View Job End Time and Runtime in the Email Itself
The Problem:
Previously, the alert email did not include the job end time or total runtime. Users had to:
Open the Job and Automation Monitoring application, orManually navigate to the remote system
Just to see how long a job ran or when it finished.
The Solution:
We’ve now added two new fields directly in the Run Info table of the alert email:
Job End TimeTotal Runtime
This eliminates the need for extra steps just to access basic metrics.
Benefit: Users now get a full snapshot of the job execution without ever leaving their inbox — reducing context-switching and improving speed of response.
Feature 2: Direct Navigation to Remote System from the Alert
The Problem:
When users needed to investigate a specific job run, they had to:
Open the Job and Automation Monitoring app in CALMLocate the jobThen navigate to the remote system
This was cumbersome, especially for teams whose only need was to view job-level details in the remote system. It also required unnecessary CALM access for team members.
The Solution:
Now, each job’s Run ID in the alert email is a clickable hyperlink that:
Directly navigates to the corresponding job instance in the remote systemRequires only the user’s remote system credentialsBypasses CALM, reducing overhead and simplifying access
How It Works: Since each system may have a unique URL structure, we implemented logic to dynamically generate the correct remote URL for each job and embed it in the notification.
Benefit: Monitoring teams can now act faster, access job details instantly, and avoid managing unnecessary CALM permissions for team members who only need remote access.
Conclusion: Simplifying Monitoring, One Feature at a Time
These two enhancements mark a key step forward in making SAP Job and Automation Monitoring not only a powerful tool but also an intuitive and efficient one.
With:
Richer job data directly in email alertsOne-click access to job details in remote systems
we’re reducing friction, saving time, and empowering teams to resolve issues faster.
