Razer has a mouse that costs $1337. And if you buy it I’m going to be very disappointed in you.
The Boomslang 20th anniversary edition is an updated, wireless reboot of Razer’s very first gaming mouse. If it looks goofy, well, that was just the shape of gaming mice back then. It’s wireless, with wireless recharging, got ridiculous DPI, all the bells and whistles, yadda yadda. It even has some fake leather and an included display case.
But Jesus, Razer, $1300. I get that it’s a meme price, and maybe you think the “Cult of Razer” includes some people who will pay that much. But this reeks of “whale hunting” in freemium games taken into the real world. At a time when PC gamers are getting screwed on hardware, it is a bad look. It doesn’t help that with several products Razer is also chasing that AI money, including an AI anime waifu powered by Grok, the system that flooded the corpse of Twitter with sexual assault images.
Razer already has a reputation for overpriced accessories, but Pretty much everything about this mouse screams tonedeaf marketing. In the words of the late great roger ebert, Razer gets the wagging finger of shame from me.
